How to enable Text To Speech when you create a Kindle ebook?

Hi guys,

Is there a way to enable text-to-speech when you make your own Kindle ebook? I sent the file to a friend with a Kindle and was told that he could not activate the TTS.

Have I inadvertantly disabled it? I don't remember using any tags or metadata related to it.

I thought all books were automatically TTS enabled??

What are you using to create your Kindle ebooks? To my knowledge, you have to specifically disable TTS by adding a metadata flag. Without that flag, TTS should be enabled. TTS is available on all of the Kindle ebooks I've created using Amazon's Kindlegen (as well as epubs I've created and then converted to mobi using Calibre).

Tell your friend to check again. As DiapDealer rightly says, any book created with Mobipocket Creator or Kindlegen will, by default, have TTS enabled.

What type of file did you send?

If MOBI or PRC format, did you create it or was it created by someone else?

If you created it, what tool did you use?

Well, I gave him a Mobi from Kindlegen.

I'll try redoing it, and scan the code. Thanks for the additional info on TTS in general
