Looking for Libraries that will issue library cards to US Veterans

I'm looking for libraries that will issue library cards to US Veterans Who are in another area.

I know about the Philadelphia Library, but was hoping that to find some others

Do you mean veterans (former military) or active duty personnel? I've never heard of a library that didn't allow veterans to get a library card. Perhaps you mean a library that is out-of-town for you?

Veteran as in Former Military

The Service's own libraries are likely available to you, see US Navy Overdrive Library.

Do libraries have different membership rules for people who do different jobs? I've never heard of that before - it sounds like a form of discrimination if it's true

In the United States, a lot of places offer benefits to veterans (usually discounts), as a way of saying thanks for their service.

Yes, there are. For US Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Air Force.

No, no, no, not at all! (Librarian speaking here.

)

However, many libraries are only able to provide free library cards to residents of their county and/or state. (Most times that's a budgetary concern; but sometimes it's legislated at the state/county level.)

But, in those cases, they'll usually still issue a library card to someone who lives out their service area for a fee. (Sometimes the fee is one-time, sometimes it's annual--depends on the library.)

The website for my library doesn't mention whether we would issue cards to US Veterans who live outside of our service area (without a fee, I mean), so I'm planning to ask our Director about it when I'm back at work middle of next week.

Do they issue cards for ALL veterans? or just those who retired from the service.

The Abilene Public Library will give free library cards to veterans. See website below. I am currently putting together a list of libraries that will give free cards to military members. Abilene is the only that I have come across that give them to retires too. Hope this helps
