About selecting and highlighting

Hi

Forgive me if there is a plain way of doing it. I did not find it...

Sometimes, when proofreading, we wish to highlight words, or punctuation signs scattered along the text files. It can be a list of suspicious (in the OCR sense) words, it can be anything.

For example, my last book had to be checked because I realized that after a poor scan, there were too many dots and not enough comas. If you are unable to highlight them, you'll lose both your sight and sanity trying to check every d... occurrence of these tiny signs.

So my question is: how can I select and highlight all the dots?

There's no such functionality, the best you can do is jump from one match to the next using the search. Or alternatively, use search and replace to surround every instance with <b> tags it will then be pretty obvious in code view or if you want to see it in preview use <u> or <span style="background-color:red">

Thanks for your answer.

Maybe it would be useful to add such a functionality because I can see many ways how it could be used to edit ebooks....

Not so much for punctuation as for 'suspicious' words, except I'd probably prefer to see them highlighted in Preview.

Just use search/replace to wrap it in your own <span style="background: red">
and once you are done with reviewing, use a search/replace to unwrap.

Indeed, it's working fine for my question, thank you.

I guess if I wish to highlight a list of words, I would have to use a function?

No, you can have a single search expression match multiple words with the | operator.

But if you have a list of words and it finds the first one, will it even check for others?

It will. When you search for anything, it doesnt find only one match of it, does it?

Hi

I comeback to you on the dot question.

I tried to use a set of two regex, red+ and red-, the first one to highlight the dots, the second one to suppress all highlighting (see below). However, the first regex also highlights the dots in the <head> of the xhtml files which is unpleasant. Is there a way to avoid this side-effect?

searches
0
case_sensitive false
dot_all false
find "(\\.)"
mode "regex"
name "red+"
replace "<span style=\"background: red\">\\1</span>"
1
case_sensitive false
dot_all false
find "<span style=\"background: red\">(.*?)</span>"
mode "regex"
name "red-"
replace "\\1"
