Murger, Henry: Bohemians of the Latin Quarter, v1, IMP, 21 Dec 2007.
Henry Murger
Bohemians of the Latin Quarter (Scènes de la vie de bohème) (1888) The translator is not named but, since the book was published by Vizetelly, there is a good chance that Ernest Vizetelly did it, (as well as his extremely pedestrian Zola translations). This is the story of poor artists in the Latin Quarter of Paris. You almost certainly know it already: Puccini used the plot for his opera ‘La Bohème’; it was used for the musical, ‘Rent’; and, in a more diluted form, the film ‘Moulin Rouge’ is derived from this novel. I’ve reformatted and restored accents etc. This work is assumed to be in the Life+70 public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution.
