Battery drain issues after a factory reset (Kindle 4)

So I decided I wanted to update my Kindle 4 (non-ad) to the latest firmware, but it was having issues, presumably due to the screensaver hack I put on it a few years ago (I'm 80% sure this was it, but i can't remember for certain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG_pGDMsAYo). Any update would fail before it could complete.

So I decided to do a factory reset, assuming it would clear out the hack, allowing me to update my Kindle. This didn't work however, and the hack is still obviously installed (tried setting up a screensavers folder again, and it worked). I wouldn't normally have an issues with this, however since doing this, my battery now drains extremely fast. I used to be able to go a couple of weeks before needing to charge it again, but now it drains after a couple of days, and takes longer to charge.

Anyone one know what the issue might be?

It is after March 22nd. You have to manually do the update.
As to the other part, I think the jailbreak stays. Let me report this post and get you to the developer forum.

Had tried to update manually, but it would fail before it finished unfortunately.

Moved to the developers corner.

Factory reset doesn't clear hacks, it just clears the registration.
I don't think the screensavers hack would prevent you from sideloading an update but you could use Kubrick to get your Kindle back to a known good state.

Hey, if your no longer sure what all has been done to it, we certainly don't know either.

  1. connect to computer, copy off (and delete from Kindle) all books and documents (from /documents).
  2. As advised above, run KUBRICK to get it back to a known starting point.
  3. Go to the Amazon update page for your device and follow the specific directions.
KUBRICK puts on a very early firmware version, you want to update it before doing anything else.
  4. KUBRICK will have installed the jailbreak, but you may need to also install the MKK package.
  5. Check the /documents folder - is everything still gone?
If not, stop at this point and post here again.
  6. Put one, known good, book on the device.
  7. Wait until it stops indexing
  8. See what your battery run-time is like in this situration.
Post back when you know more.
