If you change Search from "All HTML Files" to "Current File". You can still search in Book View.

The only thing I use Book View for is splitting chapters when dealing with REALLY awful HTML (think auto-generated monstrosities from a website). Once I get everything into their own HTML files, then I start the HTML cleanup.

I have tried on numerous occasions to get that configuration and not managed it.
But as soon as I tried after seeing your screenshot I was able to set it up in under two minutes.
