Wow that's pretty good. Sounds like they honored a hardware problem that they weren't required to honor, made a mistake and let you keep a reader for free and then gave you some Kobo store credit on top of that. Sounds like they deserve a new thread. Kobo Customer Service--I love you!

Am I the only one thinking that the two words that have been suggested as being replaced by the asterisks very often are finely differentiated in the physical act? Another interesting thread in the Kobo forum... I'm thinking that despite a slight screwup(sorry couldn't resist) Kobo came out looking pretty good on this one. At least it seems like someone is paying attention to their public image.
