Grahame, Kenneth: The Wind In The Willows, v.1, 22 Jan 2009

This is the 1913 edition of the classic children's story by Kenneth Grahame with illustrations by Paul Bransom. I was in my 30's when I enjoyed this book for the first time. The first few paragraphs drew me in fully and in an instant I was marvelling at springtime with Mole. I have reread it many times since. I hope you enjoy it.

Bransom died in 1979 so this illustrated edition, which is in the public domain in the U.S., may not be so where you live. Please check before downloading.

I have posted two copies - one with a blank line after each paragraph and one without. The copy without the blank lines was made with Mobipocket Creator so the illustrations are properly sized for eink readers. But Mobipocket Creator curiously wouldn't let me create a copy with blank lines so that one was created with BookDesigner and you will find the illustrations are rather small. Both copies were made with Mobipocket Creator so the illustrations are properly sized for eink readers.

EDIT: I see now the solution to my problem with Mobipocket Creator (thanks, JSWolf) and the missing blank lines. I will fix that copy and repost later this week.

EDIT: I've resolved the problem and have replaced the copy of the one with blank lines with a good copy.

Unless I'm missing something, you haven't included a cover in this ebook. Here's the cover from the 1913 edition.

Hmm... shouldn't this book be on the US server?

That's curious. I did add a cover image to both of these using the method HarryT suggested in his Mobipocket Creator tutorial. I selected one of Bransom's illustrations that also appears in the first chapter of the book. I don't have a portable reader that uses Mobipocket but when I downloaded these two a moment ago to check, I see the covers when they are displayed in Mobipocket Reader on my PC. If someone could look again and advise me on what, if anything, that I've done wrong, I would appreciate it.

Yep. Cover present. Well, you didn't put the title and the author on it, so it could have been taken for a frontispiece.

Ah - that explains things. I did see the cover after all, I just took it to be the first illustration, not a cover.

Sorry for not checking more thoroughly.

Well, that brings up an interesting question. On my Sony Reader, I select the book I want to read from a list of authors or titles. There is a no display of book covers, as far as I know, from which to select a book. If there was, I can see that having just an illustration (with no title or author on it) as a book cover would be awkward unless you happened to recognize which book it was from. And if that's the case, I should start adding titles and authors to the covers of books I post. Could someone please comment? Perhaps I should post this elsewhere, too.
