I'll give it a try then on the Sage, and use the nightlies just as I have been. I've never been a fan of nickel..

Just updated Elipsa Firmware so downloaded KFMon-v1.4.5-18-g86a3a93.zip and re-ran ./ install.sh as per instructions because KOreader no longer launches.

But it added Plato to the menu and I only had KOReader before.

Running KOreader from NickelMenu put up a bomb image and text on screen

Re-install of KOReader via install worked, so something wrong with KFMon install.

That's a good point, I should just strip (both) configs & icons from that particular package.

(Right now it's just the stock standalone KFMon package, which happens to include all the things for documentation purposes).

Likely a borked USBMS session, although actual details about the crash would have been helpful (Check .adds/koreader/crash.log, it's quite likely still in there).

Here is current crash log.

I wonder was it overwritten when I re-installed KOReader using the one-click script?

My Host is Linux Mint 20.1, Mate desktop, custom theme.

I've changed the sleep cover to have the shoulder on right & socket bottom right so KOReader is set now to 0 instead of 180. With default KOReader screen orientation settings and cover with shoulder on left (socket top left) the display orientation flipped between menus and book text.

Note, entire uncropped file:

The KOReader did work on prior FW. After FW update to 188 (still one behind current as I write), the Nickel Menu was empty. I downloaded the KFMon-v1.4.5-18-g86a3a93.zip and re-ran ./ install.sh
That added Plato (only as a menu item) and the KOReader launched and crashed with bomb graphic.
Re-running install.sh and selecting the KOReader option made it work (Plato gone from menu), but any non-book settings had reset to defaults, so screen was back to flipping between file browse and document, Setting to 180 and locked fixed that, but later I swapped orientation of sleep cover and changed locked orientation of KOReader to 0.

The crash.log file is truncated at 500kb.

If you find a bug that ends with a crash (ie: the bomb unless you're on desktop) and want to report it please grab the file after the crash.

Otherwise your crash.log won't contain any crash. Just the usual, non-verbose, workflow of a few KO sessions.

I'll remember, though it's best if I don't see it again!

Thanks.

Yeah, that definitely looks like an USBMS-induced filesystem crapfest (FAT32 is the worst). An update will *never* touch your settings. (Nor would, to some extent, a simple KOReader crash: at most you'd potentially lose whichever settings might have been touched in *this* KOReader session; i.e., nothing if it crashes at boot).

I fixed the OCP KFMon package to leave configs alone in the most recent updates, thanks for mentioning the issue .

THANK YOU! I remember being very pleasantly surprised when running the OCP after the latest Kobo firmware update to discover that all my settings had survived. Discovering that it wasn't just blind luck suggests to me it's time to visit your tip jar again

Great. Though I think I might wait for FW after 4.31.19086, but on the Elipsa 4.30.18838 I now have no Bluetooth. Tapping the switch turns on WiFi.

Can anyone comment on KOReader on Sage with latest versions? Is battery drain any worse than kobo firmware?

I read on my Sage using KOReader almost exclusively, and update suing the nightlies. I've just got back from a n 18 day vacation in which I did a lot of reading, and the battery life didn't seem quite as horrifically short as when first got my Sage. But that perception could be colored by having accepted the problem and having got used to simply plugging in a portable battery pack when needed.

As a sidenote, I'm not keeping the closest eye on it but nightlies may implement the same workaround as Nickel soon.

I am also eagerly awaiting a kernel that doesn't implement eink processing as two kernel threads busy-looping (!!).

Spoiler: It may never come. And there may be other horrific things hidden in the sunxi code.
(I mean, I have eInk devices that drain less power on idle than this one does in *suspend*!).
