EFF's E-Book Buyer's Guide to Privacy

Interesting read on the Electronic Frontier Foundation:

"e-reader technology presents significant new threats to reader privacy. E-readers possess the ability to report back substantial information about their users' reading habits and locations to the corporations that sell them. And yet none of the major e-reader manufacturers have explained to consumers in clear unequivocal language what data is being collected about them and why."

Not being tied to a single vendor was one of the reasons that made me choose the Onyx Boox...

I know we've hashed over that chart before, but..

Amazon Kindle Yes Only Amazon's proprietary AZW and unprotected TXT, MOBI, PRC files are directly compatible with Kindle. Newer Kindles have native PDF support.
I'm pretty sure Fictionwise (a non-associated eBook store) is compatible with the Kindle with their multiformat books, so that isn't completely accurate in terms of purchasing.

Fictionwise provides unprotected Mobi for use on the Kindle as one of the options for their "multiformat" books, so there is nothing inaccurate with respect to that.

"Is the device ONLY compatible with books purchased from an associated eBook store? Kindle: YES"

Is that accurate or inaccurate?

I buy 90% of my titles from Fictionwise and the multiformat require nothing extra in order to be loaded on to the Kindle. Heck, if you want to spend an extra $0.15 you can have them sent to your Kindle over Whispernet.

It could only be more inaccurate if it were phrased as a press release from Macmillan.

Yes, that part is inaccurate; the associated text referring to accepting unprotected Mobi is correct.

Sorry that I misinterpreted your post.
