FREE/BARGAIN - Christian Interest - August 2014
We point out free and bargain Christian titles to each other. Please don't post any self-published books*, and please do a search before posting to avoid duplicates.
In case no retailer is specifically mentioned in a post, it is safe to assume it's for Amazon US. Be aware that many freebies are only free for a day, so grab them fast! *Unless you have read them yourself, think they are excellent, and you're not connected to the author in any way. |

The free book this month from Ligonier Ministries is Surprised by Suffering by R. C. Sproul. It's available at Amazon or as a DRM-free epub at Ligonier's online store.
What looks like some old-fashioned fire and brimstone, They Thought They Had More Time: I Saw the Day of the Lord by David Jones, is free from Destiny Image. B&N Amazon If you're a fan of Warren Wiersbe's Bible studies, The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: Genesis 1–11 is free. Publisher page The other David C. Cook freebie, Discover the Mystery of Faith by Glenn Packiam has been free before, but maybe it's new to you. Publisher page If you haven't checked lately, the Baker Publishing Group has almost fifty free books. Most of them have been free for a few months, but there are a few new ones in the list. Baker Publishing at B&N sorted by price Those should also be free at Amazon, but they're split into the different imprints (Revell, Bethany House, Baker...) so there isn't one link that will list all of them. |

That one was only free for a day and only at Amazon, which is unusual for David C. Cook. It might have been a pricing glitch. David C. Cook normally changes their free books every Monday and Thursday, so odds are fair that this one will end up free again at some point, anyway.
They keep a list of free books on their website, but they're slow about updating. You can also check at Barnes & Noble or Amazon. |

Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels by J. Warner Wallace is David C. Cook's freebie for today and tomorrow. It's been free before, but I seem to recall at least one person lamenting having missed it.
Publisher page with links to ebook sellers. It's DRM-free at Christianbook, if that matters to you. |

B&H Publishing has another interesting book on sale.
Buried Hope or Risen Savior?: The Search for the Jesus Tomb by Charles Quarles is $.99 instead of the regular $24.99. B&N Christianbook It's DRM-free at Christianbook. The price hasn't been updated at Kobo (where it will be couponable) or Amazon, but I rather expect it will. Quote:

Understanding English Bible Translation: The Case for an Essentially Literal Approach by Leland Ryken is $.79 at Christianbook. It doesn't seem to be on sale anywhere else and Christianbook often puts books on sale just for a day.
The book is published by Crossway, publishers of the ESV Bible. The ESV was translated using an essentially literal approach. |

This is a super deal on this book. It's rated 4 1/2 stars at Amazon. Christianbook and Amazon says that it lists for $9.99, so $.79 is a 92% reduction in price. I bought the ebook a couple of months ago at $1.99 and thought that I was getting a bargain. I'll console myself with the fact that it is in the Kindle/mobi format, where this one is ePub. I might even buy the ePub, too, since it is so inexpensive. It would save the hassle of conversion if sometime in the future I decided that I wanted ePub for some reason. |
