I would think that reputable statisticians could be a little more precise in their wording. Last edited by wodin; 04-15-2011 at 07:30 PM. |

I can believe the stats. My missus - smart, intelligent lady that she otherwise is - refuses to read books. Read too many of them while studying for degree and then accountancy qualifications apparently.
She hates it when I tell her that there is no difference between not being able to read and not reading. The end result is the same. Last edited by greencat; 04-16-2011 at 05:02 AM. |

Perhaps, intelligent as she is, she realizes that if that is the kind of false conclusion one reaches from books, she's better off doing it her way.

LOL not surprised this is why so many Americans are stupid as of late. They'd rather watch Snooki than read a book. And if a they read a book it's trash like Twilight or Pretty Little Liars.

In my day........................
Thinking back to my own college days, which was before there was even a computer smaller than a sports arena, and based on my own cohort struggling through 3 years of academic self-improvement, hardly any college students read a book while they were at college, let alone after !
And that includes books relating to their subjects ! ( Mind you, a few wrote books, but wouldn't lower 'emselves to read works by anyone else.........) Mind you, there were other life-skills we got very good at.... : |

You're right, of cource, ApK. 'Fraid I'm the original cockeyed optimist. I'm allergic to negatives. I sneeze and break out in an unsightly rash. Cheers. Neil |

This wasn't directed specifically at you, Avarwen, but you did manage to illustrate, in one concise, quotable package, the way many here insult not just anyone who doesn't read books, but also those who don't read books THEY approve of. Last edited by ApK; 04-17-2011 at 09:23 AM. |
