Kindle Unlimited has Open Road Media
For anybody who is on the fence about trying out the new Kindle Unlimited Subscription plan Open Road Media has included most if not all the e-books that they publish.
Some of the Authors include are Piers Anthony Robert Silverberg Harry Ellison John Norman's Gor Series Aarron Elikin Anne Perry John Jakes Sue Harrison Robert McCammon Also if you borrow the book and the book is offered as a whisper sync title with discount you can purchase said audiobook for the discount. |

By way of comparison, the KU plan offers a fair number of books by John Jakes, whereas Scribd only offers a single title. Unfortunately, I had previously purchased most of the John Jakes titles. I haven't checked the other authors yet, but there are certainly several I'm interested in.
It's great to see a subscription plan offered by a mainstream vendor, even if the large publishing houses aren't yet included. SteveK |

And, coming on 5 August, Open Road will be releasing the Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters. Don't know if they'll wind up in KU, but I would definitely hope so.

Many people already have access to Freading through their local public library and that gives access to the Open Road Media catalog for borrowing. Of course there is also the convenience factor. Freading delivers books in EPUB format using Adobe Digital Editions DRM, so anyone with a Kindle would need to use an app on another device to access books from Freading.

Also, check the Open Road imprint Pegasus (you need to search separately.) They have a lot of fairly new, higher-priced releases (not reprints, and their 2014 titles don't seem to be included.)
Authors like Camilla Lackberg and Elizabeth Speller, Marcho Vichi. Also some Margery Allingham and Nicholas Blake books included, from PTD Books. |

I'm a big fan of Open Road and I don't even know any of the authors in that list above. They also publish a lot of literary fiction like William Styron, Michael Chabon, Mary McCarthy, Alice Walker, Pat Conroy, and Pearl S. Buck. They seem to acquire ebook rights from that time period where the book is not public domain but the original publisher doesn't own ebook rights because no one had thought of such a thing.
They also participate in Overdrive; my library has around 2,000 Open Road titles, and I can read them on my Kindle. Finally, they run a LOT of promotions. At any given time they have a lot of titles for $0.99 to $2.99. So it is worth taking a look whether or not you decide to do KU. eP |

Thanks for mentioning this. This is very good news for the KU program.
I always wanted to try John Jakes. Quote:

Re Open Road promos - the last two Cyber Mondays they had massive sales, with almost their entire catalogue reduced to $1-2.99. WB curious to see if they keep it up this year.

Some of the Open Road reprints are mighty expensive
The Raven Ring (The Lyra Novels) Patricia C. Wrede shows as $15 to me http://www.amazon.com/Raven-Ring-Lyr...dp/B006BPL29G/ |

If Amazon can offer the entire Open Road catalog for KU members, it would transform the program from just another paid service to essentially a library card with a monthly fee. Many of the more .... errr... mature members can well remember reading these authors/series in original paperbacks [I think I still have some Brother Cadfael paperbacks lurking on a bookshelf] and may now want to revisit them, or finish the series, etc. Now they can borrow them, without having to wait in line for a limited number of copies offered by a local library. Brilliant! I applaud Open Road bringing back these titles!

Open Road has some great, and often overlooked, Fantasy and Science Fiction authors:
Robin W. Bailey Dave Duncan Elizabeth A. Lynn Kate Elliott Ru Emmerson R.A. McAvoy Adrian Cole Barbara Hambly I already own pretty much everything SFF that they publish, so KU doesn't do me much good, but it would be worth it for most SFF fans. |
