Written in 1799, Travels in the Interior of Africa tells of Mungo Park's journey into the depths of equatorial Africa to discover the course of the Niger river. After many hardships, alone and robbed of almost all his possessions, he eventually managed to struggle back to the coast and return to England. When it was first published, Travels in the Interior of Africa was extremely popular, and deserves a wider modern audience. Unforunately Park was not to see the height of this popularity, as he journeyed once more into Africa in 1805, where he perished, it is believed in early 1806, although there are rumours that he may have survived for longer.

This version has been converted from the Project Gutenberg text. I have also posted a lrf version.
