eBook formats from other sellers?

Was browsing online for a book today and found it at a seller (harper) that sells it in PDF, Microsoft or Mobireader format.

For the 505, is there a safe bet on which version?

If you don't want to remove DRM (encryption) then your options are Adobe ePub (best) and Adobe PDF. A PDF will go to a new screen at every page boundary in the original document, and can have other artefacts, but it is typically readable.

The PRS-505 can reads the original PDF. If you want ePub, then in this case (a) you need to strip the DRM and (b) you should start with LIT (best) or MOBI because they are reflowable formats like ePub. Once you have a DRM-free ebook then Calibre can convert it to LRF or ePub for you. This can be also done with DRM-free PDFs, but they don't always convert well.
