Do you prefer justified or left-aligned text on a your ereader?

I prefer it justified. Otherwise it looks like a mess to me.

To tell you the truth, I prefer left aligned, but I really only notice justification when I'm tired and have to make the font extremely large...at that point I wish with all my heart for that ragged right, because it's so much better than having lines with huge spaces between the words.

Whatever the book comes with. I don't make any changes to fonts, size, margins, spacing, etc. I download a book and start reading it. The default settings work for me.

Justified with hyphenation. In the past I would have said I don't care. However recently several books from Amazon have had ragged right, and I found it really annoying.

My preference is left justified on all reading devices. On small screens full justify looks horrible with large spaces between words. On larger screens unless you use a small font size it can look just as bad. I use larger font sizes.

Until Amazon finally did something about their page layout I found it very difficult and annoying to read. I would get a sample from Amazon and if I could manage to get through more than a couple of pages I knew it was a book that could keep my interest.

The only problem is that unless you are technically knowledgeable, you are stuck with whatever your reader can do. I had to spend too much time trying to format my books. That's why I started using a tablet and Moon+ to read. Moon+ ignore most of the css, so you can have the book look like you want it to. Some people see this as a detriment, but on most books it looks fine for me.

I suspect this is really what the poll will show: do you read on a large screen or small, and does your reader support hyphenation (especially automatic)?

On a 10" reader that does auto-hyphenation, it's very rare to have the strange spacing that shows up all the time on a 6" reader that doesn't hyphenate.

Not exactly. I read in a YotaPhone, a Kobo Aura, a Kobo Aura One and, from time to time, in an iPad. As you can see, size and readers vary. I NEVER activate hyphenation and I CANNOT read with right ragged side. Each one her own

That's where having a Reader that hyphenates without needing a special format comes in very handy. It makes full justification work much better without so many large gaps. With current enough versions of ADE, one can get hyphenation, ligatures, and variable spacing as needed.

If the eBook is properly coded, you can change the justification with a Kobo Reader. The software has the option for off, left, and full. It's in the Aa menu so it's easy to get to.

On a Kobo reader, yes. On the Sony 950 or the horrible Onyx Boox 60 I started out on it wasn't possible. And of course Amazon knows best, so you can only view an ebook the way they present it on their hardware.

Just curious - would you be able to read something like this? I was going also do a screen print with a ragged right, but I forgot that Bookari can't do left justify anymore.
