Das amerikanische Original "The Forsaken Inn" der erfolgreichen Autorin Anna Katherine Green erschien 1890. Im Verlag von Robert Lutz kam 1896 als Band 5 in der Reihe "Sammlung ausgewählter Kriminal- und Detektiv-Romane" die Übersetzung von Margarete Jacobi unter dem Titel "Das verlassene Gasthaus" heraus (255 Seiten).

Der Buchdeckel ist Elementen des Titelbildes der Ausgabe bei Grosset & Dunlap Publishers New York (1909) nachgebildet.

Zugrunde lag ein PDF-Fraktur-Scan aus der ehemaligen Seite "Alte Krimis". OCR mit dem inzwischen äußerst tüchtigen gimagereader.
