Pompeii is a vast archaeological site in southern Italy’s Campania region, near the coast of the Bay of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is a United States national park lying in the western Sierra Nevada of California. The park, which is managed by the U.S. National Park Service, covers an area of 747,956 acres (1,168.681*sq*mi; 302,687*ha; 3,026.87*km2). Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, lakes, mountains, meadows, glaciers, and biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness.
On average, about 4 million people visit Yosemite each year, and most spend the majority of their time in the 5.9 square miles (15*km2) of Yosemite Valley. The park set a visitation record in 2016, surpassing 5 million visitors for the first time in its history.

Puʻu ʻŌʻō is a volcanic cone in the eastern rift zone of the Kīlauea volcano of the Hawaiian Islands. Until the end of April 2018 Puʻu ʻŌʻō had been erupting nearly continuously since January 3, 1983, making it the longest-lived rift-zone eruption of the last two centuries. By January 2005, 2.7 cubic kilometers (0.65*cu*mi) of magma covered an area of more than 117 square kilometers (45*sq*mi) and added 230 acres (0.93*km2) of land to the southeast coast of Hawaiʻi. So far, the eruption has claimed 189 buildings and 14 kilometers (8.7*mi) of highways, as well as a church, a store, the Wahaʻula Visitor Center, and many ancient Hawaiian sites, including the Wahaʻula heiau. The coastal highway has been closed since 1987, as it has been buried under lava up to 35 meters (115*ft) thick.

Odense, Denmark

Odense's most famous landmark was Odinstårnet (The Odin Tower) constructed in 1935, as the second-tallest tower in Europe, only surpassed by the Eiffel Tower with its 177 meters. Odinstårnet was blown up by a Danish Nazi group in 1944 and has never been rebuilt.

Dublin

Dublin has a significant literary history, and produced many literary figures, including Nobel laureates William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Samuel Beckett. It is also the location of key and notable works of James Joyce, including Ulysses, which is set in Dublin and includes much topical detail.

Nyasaland - name given in 1910 to what had previously been known as the British Central Africa Protectorate, today we know it as Malawi.

In 1953 Nyasaland ceased being a discrete colony to became part of what was known as the Rhodesian (or Central African) Federation. The Federation was dissolved a decade later, shortly before the creation of the newly independent republics of Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.

Lord Blake, an Oxford based historian, said of the Federation "[it is] one of the most elaborately governed countries in the world." Which rather begs the [rhetorical] question: if Britain could create such a thing, how come it's never been comfortable as a member of the European equivalent
