How long have you been using Calibre?
I've been using it since December 2013, judging from the dates of my earliest books.

From my earliest book dates, I started using calibre in Aug. 2008 (most of the early books were from Baen's Free Library). I lurked on MobileRead for a couple of years before I got around to joining when I finally purchased a physical ereader.

Best guess is that I have had it installed since around 2010, but did very little with it. Had a few books in it that were downloaded from Kindle but could not read them or do anything with them due to DRM.
It was not until later in 2019 that I started dedicating time to Calibre and learning more about it and understanding ebooks in general after a many year hiatus from reading. |

Maybe since before version 1.48 on XP. Initially only with PD, which I'd been downloading probably before 2000. I forget how I discovered Calibre.
Edit: I can't go by Date column as obviously there was a massive migration in August 2014. Last edited by Quoth; 01-25-2025 at 08:54 PM. |

Since version 0.7.14 - I think that was 2010/11, but up until early 2012 I only dabbled. I think I found it here when I was looking at e-readers.

September 2011. For a couple of years I only used it for DRM removal and backup, not library management, but this changed once I had over a thousand ebooks and managing by folders became a PITA. Never looked back since.
Edit: I discovered calibre when googling about DRM removal before buying my first DRMed ebook. I found MR several years later. Last edited by Sirtel; 01-25-2025 at 10:04 PM. |

MR and Calibre share the same time frame for me. (MR was where I discovered the EZReader)
While I was waiting for my device, I set up a table and a Laptop + Flat bed scanner and a bar code reader and started documenting my paperback collection (>800 books). Some were so old, that they did not have an ISBN and many of the covers Calibre found were Modern editions, which is why the Flat bed scanner. The next steps were BAEN CD's and the Free Library. A side note: Many were already in Calibre as Dead Tree editions. |

I have, of course, been using calibre since before it was calibre, Fall 2006, when the Sony PRS-500 was released, and I released libprs500 to work with it on Linux. I was curious to see the dates on my earliest books, its Jan 2007 which means that was around when development on what would become the calibre GUI started.

Totally off-topic but reminds me of that old joke:
You spend the first year of your child's life teaching them to walk and talk. You then spent the next 17 years telling them to sit down and shut up. My oldest granddaughter is getting fully into the Terrible Twos so that joke comes to mind all too often. |

I join the forum in 2009, and I think I began to use calibre around that time (first for DRM and conversion, later as library management9).

The oldest db I have on media catalog is dated March 2011:
In the beginning I did very little with it and used it mostly for conversions. I can't rely on dates of the earliest books in my main db because some have obviously innacurate timestamps like January 2003 and July 2001 (those are dated prior to libprs500 conception!) Then I have a more steady sequence of titles dated from May 2009 onwards, but I believe timestamps should be correct starting from September 2010. Earliest Id is 3 from 2016 but that's dated after my second earliest Id, which is 49 from September 2012, lol. Big thanks for the question because I thought this catalog wasn't easily accessible as I have yet to consolidate many old hard drives, and I just found where to look for some data I've been missing. In november 2009 i added about 200 books to calibre. That must be my starting time. I joined MR somewhat later in 2010.
