The case for a case
Well, with the Kindle Colorsoft on sale for Prime members, I decided to trade in my PW4. I usually order a case with all my readers but I didn’t this time. Since the Colorsoft is a little bigger and heavier than the PW4, I was thinking of trying a lighter case, maybe the clear one.
I was reading on the PW4 yesterday. I went to the kitchen to start dinner. My husband left the room for a few minutes and I suddenly heard an excited scream from my macaw. I went to look and somehow he got the PW4 off the coffee table and was playing with it. I got it away from him pretty quickly but was thinking, there goes my trade-in value. The case looks a bit rough, but the Kindle didn’t get a scratch. It looks completely fine. Guess I better order a case. |

I dropped enough cellphones in my early days to have learned to always put something I buy in a case if there's a case for it. My e readers get the same treatment and when I accidentally knocked my K3 from a desk it was in a case. I broke the corner of the case but the device itself was fine

I don't use cases, and mine has been a multiple-cat household for more than 15 years. No damaged screens.

I have cases for my various kobo ereaders, and particularly like the case that has a stand fold, marvellous for reading at a table.

I have always had a case, and it hasn't always stopped a damaged screen.
With my new Oasis, because it's so nice to hold without a case, I'm giving case-less use a go. OK so far..... |

I've moved AWAY from cases although I still buy them as backup, (just in case), due to their fraying over time and the grimy NASTY look they acquire, even though I clean my hands with an authoritative single-mindedness reserved for those who suffer from OCD.
I now use CLEAR BACK COVERS, and I am DELIRIOUS with happiness. Finally, very little added weight...and they have a 'grippiness' that gives me supreme, majuestic JOY whenever I hold my Kindle Scribe (First release) Kindle Oasis (2019) Kindle Machta Kobo Libra Color (I'll stick with my spelling, thank you) Kobo Libra 2 (I need to update my devices listed beneath my pipe!) I don't use the ones with a clear back cover and that also have a front cover. I have the ones that have only a back cover, as in this one that I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09STTVXZW...fed_asin_title I love it, but the screen is not protected, which is OK with me. |

My very first K2 had a sleeve. All others since then live in a case. The thinness actually makes them hard to hold for me. I had an oasis, which I sold a few years ago, and it was crazy slick. Using it without a case was a hard no.
I'm not a person who always drops things, but all my devices have occasionally taken flight. I remember tripping and a Kindle going clear across one room into another. The only device I've dropped and broke was the 2nd gen iPad Air, which was just a month old. Got a crack from one corner to the opposite one. It was in one of those covers with the pivot so you could turn it landscape to portrait. The weight of the iPad caused it to flip and be yanked out of my hand onto the metal carpet transition. |

I too dislike touching the felt inner lining for that reason. A small plus has to go to B&N for making their cases with that rubbery material I feel you can actually clean. I don't feel as guilty for holding my Nook with unwashed hands as I do my Voyage.

Lucky for me, that's the cover I purchased 4 hours ago. I'm glad to hear that you're pleased with that version. |

I don't use a case for my eReader. I want it as small and light as possible during use. I do carry it around in a padded bag though. And in that bag it is nestled up against my tablet which is in its own separate case (the screen side of the eReader is facing the tablet for additional protection).

I have never dropped an e-reader and don't like holding them in cases. I do have a case for my Libra 2, though, as I sometimes take that with me when I travel.
I'm also a fan of Boox's new magnetic cases, since I can quickly take the readers out of them and start reading. |
