O'Reilly epubs doesn't work

I do own some oreilly.com epubs. They offer different formats but for the JetBook Color I did want to use epubs (mobi doesn't work really well).

That doesn't work. If you're device isn't Digital Editions registered it complains that it needs to be registered. If you do that (totally senseless because it's DRM less) it says 'Can't open file'.

What's going on? Did somebody else try that out? You might even try it out with some of the free O'Reilly E-Books on their site.

Has the epub you want the DRM? or it is "DRM less"?
if Your ebook (epub or PDF) has DRM protection you have to follow the istruction on:
http://www.jetbook.net/adobedrm

otherwise best to contact Ectaco support.

In my experience I bought several epub and pdf (without DRM) from http://www.packtpub.com/ and they works perfectly on Jetbook Color

I did find the problem.

The JetBook Color doesn't process epubs which are named 'Something.ePub'. The capital P leads to the the point that the JetBook Color isn't able to open the file.

Not sure if it is really a bug (don't know if the the epub 2.0 specification forbids it) but in focus of a better compatibility I hope Ectato will fix it.

This is not a bug but a failure to understand the file system. Unix based file systems are case sensitive always, always. epub and ePub are not the same file so JetBook evidently does not recognize the file as an epub file. Presumably you are expecting the eReader application to automatically start when you click on the file and start the application automatically. It may be that that is under control of a file on the system and the various cases can be added. You could write Ectato and ask for this.

There is nothing in the epub specification that specifies how the file system must work so it is not a specifications issue.

Strange! Jetbook Color is supposed to be WinCE based.

But maybe since most readers are linux based, Ectaco specifically made it so it has to be .epub.
