I've given myself a morning writing session Monday-Saturday, and a second session in the afternoons M-F. I moved to this schedule a few years back when I felt I wasn't being productive enough.

I'm generally more of a day person than a night person. That said, there have been times when a story idea hit me when I couldn't sleep, and I did a little extra work.

I can't say that one time of day is more productive for me than another. For me it's a matter of what I'm working on. Today I went over my session goals in the morning and afternoon because I felt I had to write to the end of the scenes I was working on in both sessions. At times the story, or part of it, is the motivator for me.

What works, works, right?

Very much this, for me. Once something in the story starts to work for me, it will drive me - regardless of the time of day or year - until it (that part) is done.

Sometimes.

Even my statement that night time is the best time for me is not a hard and fast rule - merely a reasonable generalisation of my lifestyle.

I am not sure whether to wish I had found a reliable formula that works for me, or to be glad that I haven't (yet).
