Exemption to Prohibition on Circumvention of Copyright Protection Systems for Access

The US Copyright office's rule making process has begun to determine "Exemption to Prohibition on Circumvention of Copyright Protection Systems for Access Control Technologies."

That is, the office is seeking public input on what class of works to exempt from DRM circumvention provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

Please see here for more info:
http://www.copyright.gov/1201/

My personal opinion, what I intended to request, is that it be made clear that removing DRM for non-copyright-infringing space- and format-shifting is explicitly allowed. That is, I want them to state unambiguously that we're allowed to remove DRM for purposes like reading on a different device.

If anyone feels like spearheading a more coordinated effort among us, I'm behind you.

...and listening, playing, viewing, etc. Of course this won't fly with content providers who specifically use proprietary formats in order to lock customers into specific ecosystems and hardware. Expect them to fight this tooth and nail.
