Searching for.... in fields help needed

Okay... I finally mastered the search function in calibre EXCEPT... is there a way to search for "blank" fields?

For example if I wanted to search for all books where the comment field was blank... is there a way to do that?

Yes and no. I don't think it's possible to do it inside calibre. I do those searches inside the database with SQLiteSpy using SQL queries, but it's not very convenient unless you just want to identify one or two books.

If you really need to do this for a lot of books, you could try adding a keyword to the comments using SQL and one of the techniques in this thread. Then you'd search for your keyword inside calibre.

I think I read somewhere that you could use syntax like
fieldtype:false
to handle this case. I guess using true instead of false also shows none-empty values.

Yep, comments:false|true does the trick. Nice one, I didn't know that.

Win32
1) syntax is a: comments:false or comments:true
Not both and no spaces and no capital letters

2)it seems to be touchy
If I made an error on the command it seems to not fully recover until I restarted Calibre.

Although it worked for me, and I never had to restart, it did find some tags that had "False" in them when I first tried it, then it found empty tags. I haven't tried it enough to figure out what caused it to switch.
