TekWar by William Shatner is $1.99 at Amazon. Actually, almost the entire series is on sale right now (what's up with book 4 being left out?).

I'm sure it is silly junk (and I'm aware Ron Goulart wrote or at least co-wrote the books). But I've been a little curious about the series since it first came out.

Quote:
Not satisfied with the thrills of being one of Greater Los Angeles’ toughest cops, Jake Cardigan turns to Tek, a computerized brain stimulant which transports the user to any reality he can imagine. He’s soon addicted to this fantasy-enabler—and it isn’t long before Cardigan is accused of dealing. When he fails to convince the mechanized jury of his innocence, the state strips his badge and sentences him to fifteen years in suspended animation. Four years later he’s awakened. His sentence has been changed, but no one will tell him why. Cardigan’s search for answers takes him to Mexico, where a rogue scientist is attempting to rid the world of Tek. But these efforts have roused powerful enemies. Aiding this quest is the right thing to do, but for an ex-con, doing good can be the most dangerous decision of all.

Oh yeah. I just figured some helpful person would post a follow-up saying the same, so preemptively mentioned it.

The Ballad of Perilous Graves by Alex Jennings is $3 on Amazon.com
Quote:
Music is magic in this vibrant and imaginative debut novel set in a fantastical version of New Orleans where a battle for the city's soul brews between two young mages, a vengeful wraith, and one powerful song.

Nola is a city full of wonders. A place of sky trolleys and dead cabs, where haints dance the night away and Wise Women help keep the order. To those from Away, Nola might seem strange. To Perilous Graves, it’s simply home.

In a world of everyday miracles, Perry might not have a talent for magic, but he does know Nola’s rhythm as intimately as his own heartbeat. So when the city’s Great Magician starts appearing in odd places and essential songs are forgotten, Perry realizes trouble is afoot.

Nine songs of power have escaped from the piano that maintains the city’s beat, and without them, Nola will fail. Unwilling to watch his home be destroyed, Perry will sacrifice everything to save it. But a storm is brewing, and the Haint of All Haints is awake. Nola’s time might be coming to an end.

I loved Clarke's Space Odyssey books. They may well be my favorite sci-fi books.

I read the first one back in either junior high or high school. I don't remember a whole lot about it, but it wasn't an awful book. It also wasn't a great book, but it wasn't something I regretted reading, so it's worth a shot. It was a hell of a lot better than the "Shatnerverse" Star Trek novels he co-wrote. Those were absolutely ridiculous.

I'm aware that's not much of a recommendation, but it's the best I've got.

Mom and I both loved the series. No longer have the paperbacks so it was great to pick these 2 up (already had 2001). Hopefully 3001 will be up soon as well.

2010, 2061 and 3001 are all published by Open Road Press in the US and go on sale fairly often. 2001 is published by... I don't remember. Not Open Road anyway. It goes on sale the least.

It apparently was published by them elsewhere I think I found a cover for it that follows the design of the rest of the Open Road books.

The Caves of Steel (The Robot Series Book 1) and The Robots of Dawn (The Robot Series Book 3) by Isaac Asimov are $3.99 each at Amazon US. The second book, The Naked Sun is not on sale.

I guess the Foundation stuff is what Asimov is most remembered for. But for my money, the robot books are his best works. If you've not yet read Caves of Steel, I'd recommend you do so.

Agreed: Tek War is okay. Not great. Not terrible. Just okay.

My copy of 2001 purchased from Amazon.com in 2014 was published by RosettaBooks, for whatever that's worth.
