Recently I've read "Natural Acts" by David Quammen -a writer on natural history. Its a collection of his early essays and is quite good. I've also read "Song of the Dodo" by him-even better . Look up Quammen on Amazon HERE.
Stephen Jay Gould was a great science essayist who frequently disagreed with a favorite here, Dawkins. A lot of vhis stuff isn't on Kindle, but you can check his work HERE. Dunno if "The Elegant Universe" was mentioned, but that was pretty ace. Looky here , the Kindle edition is only $2.11. Grab it HERE. On the same page is Isaacson's biography of Einstein. It was universally well regarded, and you might want to try it if you are an Einstein admirer (and which intelligent person isn't?) "At the Water's Edge" by Carl Zimmer was superb, but its only avaiable as a pbook. He has a couple of newer ones , like "Brain Cuttings" and "Planet of Viruses" but I don't know how good they are. I'll check out the samples. Last edited by stonetools; 05-22-2011 at 01:14 PM. |

Carl Zimmer's Planet of Viruses is a great book.
(Viruses consume over half of the ocean's bacteria every day and over half of our DNA is material from viruses.) |

Finished Packing for Mars a while ago and can definitely recommend it.
Has anyone read Kaku's latest, Physics of the Future? I've enjoyed all his books especially Einstein's Cosmos. |

Just checked and Physics of the Future is available in our local libraries as an eBook and I have my name on the list. Will read as soon as my name comes up.

Help!
Trying to buy the Dan Falk book, In Search of Time: Journeys along a Curious Dimension but the Sony site says that it is only available in Canada. However they do offer In Search of Time: The History, Physics, and Philosophy of Time by Falk. Question is: Is this the same book with a slightly different title? Maybe the first is the Canadian version and this is the US version. The Kobo site only lists this book and not the 'Curious Dimension' version |

It seems to be. Amazon and B&N are selling the ebook (and the hardback) in the US as In Search of Time: The Science of a Curious Dimension, but they also have a paperback, listed separately, with the title In Search of Time: The History, Physics, and Philosophy of Time. The reviews are the same, and the cover is the same except for the title.
