They used to sell (25 years ago, that is) packaged sliced steak made just for home prep of the Philly Cheese steak sandwich. Long rectangles of thinly sliced meat...
I wonder if that is still sold to in US supermarkets? I've never seen it being sold anywhere else in the world.

Yes, it is. Or at least we carry it at the local grocery store that I work at. (In Illinois). It's called Steak-Umms. Exactly what you said...frozen rectangles of thinly sliced beef. Terrible name, but pretty good stuff.

I'm not craving anything at the moment, probably because I'm full. Here while back, I made a burger that Chris took a picture of and posted on his Facebook page. Last night, a friend from high school took a picture of a dinner he had at another friend's house and posted it on his Facebook page. Tonight's dinner, I was tempted to take a picture of and post...well, I'm sure you can guess the rest. I managed to avoid temptation however, and just ate it. "It" was Chicken Piccata, and it turned out beautifully....both in looks and taste.

I remember I used to use it to make S.O.S. I preferred that product to the dried salted beef that was traditionally used.

You *can*... I don't recommend it. I usually split mine and put them in a hot frying pan for just about a minute. Not quite grilled, but close...

I had two fabulous, as usual, meals on successive nights last week at my favoritist of my favorite places to eat: Taki in Urbandale, Iowa. My favoritist place to sit is at the sushi bar in front of the sushi dudes. I *love* great sushi and these guys are tops.
