102 F and sunny today. Pretty much the same it's been for the last month.
If anyone has some spare rain - and a way to get it to this side of the Mississippi - it would be greatly appreciated. |

Back into the 100+ F temps with 100% humidity for us for the rest of the week .... punctuated with brief powerful thunderstorms that just make it feel like a sauna ...

Egad! Just survived an extremely strong line of thunderstorms that moved through our area this afternoon! Skies got very dark so I went outside at 3 to close my car windows - as I was walking back from the parking lot we got hit with straight line winds, followed by torrential rains & lightning! I can still run when I have to!
Result: 40,000 without power in NC. Trees down everywhere. Our power was out for 3 hours .... came back on just as I parked in the driveway! Guinness was still cold in the fridge! Temps hitting the +100 F for the end of the week .... sigh .... |

We had straight line winds of 70-80 mph! It blew the gravel off the parking lot! Chapel Hill lost some big oak trees ... and power lines.

We keep hearing the "possibility" of rain and thunderstorms only to see them go to the east and west of us.

We were fortunate that our house wasn't pelted by the quarter-size hailstones that were reported in some areas. We just had a new roof put on in November and it's already survived one bout with hail.

Our new summer weather pattern:
Highs in the 90's F with 90% + humidity. Nightly monster thunderstorms with flood-producing rains, tons of lightning, and enough thunder to put Goldie cat into therapy. Repeat daily for the foreseeable future! |
