You know you've gotten into the whole e-reader thing when...

You borrow an e-pub from the library of a book you actually own, just so you can read it on your Kobo.

A little background: a year or so back I bought a remaindered copy of Jim Butcher's Turn Coat (#11 of the Dresden Files.) Always enjoy getting a hardcover for less then a paperback. At the time, I'd only read up to number six.

I eventually borrowed a collection of the Dresden Files books (#7-12) and read up through #10. My Touch, I will admit, had problems with the large e-pub. (The Dresden books are not small.) A little burned out on Dresden, I never got around to cracking open my copy of Turn Coat.

A few days ago I ended up getting a copy of Small Jobs (a Dresden short story compilation) from the library. And when I reached the section set after Turn Coat, I figured "I should get around to reading that."

But these days, I do a lot of my reading (maybe even a majority) on the bus, on my Kobo. Heck, even in my house it's been ages since I read a p-book. So I borrowed the Turn Coat e-pub from my library.

I have the first three books of a series in paper, and just bought the final two from Kobo. I thought I would go back and re-read the paper ones before starting the ebooks, but I got a bit of a shock when I saw the tiny print in the paperbacks. Now I think I will sell the paper books and put the money towards the ebook versions.

I just did the same thing. I was going to re-read a particular paperback, but when I pulled it out, the paper was yellow, the type faded and poor so I decided I'd just buy the epub. It is a book I'll re-read (obviously) in future.

I do the same. And I mark anything that looks like an error and check it against the paperback. A few badly formatted books I have reformatted to match the paperback. Does it make it worse that I have also fixed the tiny or missing maps at the beginning of fantasy novels?

Face it, we're all hooked... At least the OP has good taste in books. I need to re-read the next to last one, and get the new one.

With all due respect to Jeff Foxworthy:

You know you've gotten into the whole e-reader thing when...

you try to adjust the text size on a restaurant menu by tapping the bottom when you've forgotten your glasses.

your main criteria for buying a car involves whether it comes with USB power jacks.

you attempt to insert the micro USB cable into a hard cover you like so it'll be charged for your morning commute.

you're dismayed that you can't change the font or look up a word in the magazine you're reading at the doctor's office.

you're upset that hard covers suddenly seem heavier than you remembered.

you remember to charge your e-reader, but can't remember to charge your phone -despite needing to do so far more often.

your finger briefly searches for the light button on a road atlas.

you realize that despite your best efforts, you cannot check your email on a paperback.

... you buy the ebook of a hardback you were give for Christmas, because reading the hardback is just too awkward.

A little biased perhaps, but there are very few books that I read, or re-read now that are not eBooks, and this includes books I previously purchased. Why? I think it's possibly a convenience thing. So much easier to whip out the Touch on the train and read than to pull out a book.

There is also the ability to carry a plethora of eBooks with you. I'm currently working my way through the Inspector Morse novels, and a few times I've finished off one of them off rather quickly, and so I can easily open the next in the series, whereas if I was using a real book, I'd probably not have the next one to hand.

Last week, I tried to turn the page of an old book I'm reading since my teens by gently pushing the bottom of the page. When nothing happened, I realized I actually had to turn the page

When I'm at home, I'll switch between ebooks and dead tree books. Away from home, the Glo makes it so much easier to carry a library with me -- at this time, I'm re-reading David Eddings' Belgariad/Malloreon series plus the various books that are related so about 20 books on the go. Not to mention ebooks keep the family's comments about having ~3000 books in the basement down (about 1500 hard cover, the rest in paperback).

Regards,
David

If it makes you feel better, I've gotten so used to touching displays to follow links that I've done that on a regular LCD a few times. In my defense, most of the interaction I have with displays these days are with touch devices.

I've recently switched to voice I/O on my phone -mostly when driving, for texts and directions, now I wonder how long it'll be before someone walks by and sees me talking to my watch?
