How to upload e-book to Calibre Server?

I have installed a Calibre server on CentOS 6.4.
I found that we can make Calibre desktop application as a server. But I want to find a way to send e-books in my desktop application to another server such that others can access them through that server.

Thanks for any advice.

You cannot upload books to the server. You need to do it through the calibre desktop application.

You can try running calibre on the server using a remote desktop, and add the books that way. Or by logging in remotely and running calibre from the command line.

Not quite.. You can have calibre auto add books placed in a given directory.

Good point.

Of course, this does mean the main calibre program (not just the server, possibly being run headless?) must be running. And you will need to do a remote login anyway, unless maybe you setup a webscript to upload files to that folder? In which case I suppose you can also setup a webpage that can run "calibredb add" on the uploaded book.

Well the directory where files are added could actually be shared with the other machines...

One possibility is to update the local calibre library the usual way, via the GUI. And write a backup copy of the library to some shared folder. Preferably using some sync utility.

The computer that is running the calibre server could now and then update its own local library from the share. Either once a day or if a script that is run more frequently detect that the library on the share has been updated. The detection part could be handled by deleting or renaming metadata.db on the share after the library has been updated.

The library that is being copied could be separate from the main library. So you just add books to it locally, and fix metadata and covers as usual. And let the server update itself as needed. Some scripting skills will be needed.
