Now the fourth title in the series, Death at the Clos du Lac, has dropped to £0.99: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07R92XNMM

Sadly, Rive Nord and Price of Lies are no longer on sale, but Marais and Pont Noir remain at £0.99 each, for now at least.

The Venetian Affair by Helen MacInnes is $1.99 right now at Kindle and Kobo US. This was one of the earliest spy novels I read after branching out from Alistair MacLean, and I remember really liking it. I may have to reread it....

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Venetian-Affa...dp/B00BO4GE7Y/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-venetian-affair

Spoiler:
Quote:
While on assignment in Paris and Venice, an American journalist works desperately to expose Communist espionage activities.

Fenner burned Rosenfeld’s message, reminding himself wryly that he was behaving in the very best tradition. This was a game not too difficult to learn, he thought. A game? A game in deadly earnest. A vacation in Venice that was grim business. A girl constantly beside him who wasn’t his. How the hell had he walked into this upside-down world? Where, he wondered suddenly, would Venice lead?

The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
The highly acclaimed novel based on America's most infamous unsolved murder case. Dive into 1940s Los Angeles as two cops spiral out of control in their hunt for The Black Dahlia's killer in this powerful thriller that is "brutal and at the same time believable" (New York Times).

On January 15, 1947, the torture-ravished body of a beautiful young woman is found in a Los Angeles vacant lot. The victim makes headlines as the Black Dahlia -- and so begins the greatest manhunt in California history. Caught up in the investigation are Bucky Bleichert and Lee Blanchard: Warrants Squad cops, friends, and rivals in love with the same woman. But both are obsessed with the Dahlia -- driven by dark needs to know everything about her past, to capture her killer, to possess the woman even in death. Their quest will take them on a hellish journey through the underbelly of postwar Hollywood, to the core of the dead girl's twisted life, past the extremes of their own psyches -- into a region of total madness.

Dublin Noir: The Celtic Tiger vs. the Ugly American edited by Ken Bruen is $1.99 at US etailers.

Quote:
The Irish master of noir Ken Bruen—and an all-star lineup of award-winning authors from both sides of the Atlantic—shine a light on the dark streets of Dublin in this collection of short fiction.

Dublin Noir introduces secret corners of a fascinating city and surprise assaults on the “Celtic Tiger” of modern Irish prosperity. It explores how the Irish see themselves and how outsiders see them—and provides evidence that their storied literary reputation extends into the realm of mystery and crime writing.

The Crypt Thief (A Hugo Marston Novel Series Book 2) by Mark Pryor is $1.99

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...oreType=ebooks

Quote:
It’s summer in Paris and two tourists have been murdered in Père Lachaise cemetery in front of Jim Morrison’s grave. The cemetery is locked down and put under surveillance, but the killer returns, flitting in and out like a ghost, and breaks into the crypt of a long-dead Moulin Rouge dancer. In a bizarre twist, he disappears under the cover of night with part of her skeleton. One of the dead tourists is an American and the other is a woman linked to a suspected terrorist; so the US ambassador sends his best man and the embassy’s head of security—Hugo Marston—to help the French police with their investigation. When the thief breaks into another crypt at a different cemetery, stealing bones from a second famed dancer, Hugo is stumped. How does this killer operate unseen? And why is he stealing the bones of once-famous can-can girls? Hugo cracks the secrets of the graveyards but soon realizes that old bones aren’t all this killer wants. . . .

Seeing a Large Cat is the 9th in the excellent IMO (and the opinion of lots of others, I suspect, going by Peters' MWA Grand Master Award) Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Most of the titles in this series don't go on sale very often in the US, so grab this one if you want it.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002WAUVK0
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/seeing-a-large-cat

Spoiler:
Quote:
No villain is safe in 1903 Egypt as feisty archaeologist Amelia Peabody embarks on her ninth adventure.

According to an ancient Egyptian papyrus, dreaming of a large cat means good luck. And that's just what Amelia Peabody could use, as her growing family matures in the new century. What's more, Amelia's dashing husband Emerson has received a mysterious warning not to enter the Valley of the Kings. To Emerson's annoyance, Amelia's meddling distracts her attention as she exposes a fraudulent spiritualist, saves a marriage, and plays matchmaker. But diabolical forces are at work when an unknown tomb reveals a shocking murder -- and the Peabody family dodges bullets from an assassin determined to put an end to their discoveries.

I was of two minds about whether to post this or not. At $4.99, it's kind of expensive for a sale price, and not much off its normal price of $6.99. OTOH, I really like this series (see below). So in the end I decided to post. So...

Clubbed to Death is the fourth in the Robert Amiss series by Ruth Dudley Edwards, currently reduced to $4.99 at Kindle US.

Clubbed link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VNH21MP

Spoiler:
Quote:
Robert Amiss is persuaded by his friend Detective Sergeant Pooley of the CID to take a job as a waiter in ffeatherstonehaughs (pronounced Fanshaws), a gentlemens club in St James. The club secretary has allegedly jumped to his death from the gallery of this imposing building. Against most of the evidence, Pooley believes he was murdered.
Amiss finds himself in a bizarre caricature of a club, run by and for debauched geriatrics, with skeletons rattling in every cupboard. Why are there so few members? How are they financed? Will Amiss keep his job despite the enmity of the ferocious, snuff-covered Colonel Fagg?

Also, the first one, from the post below, is still $0.99, and I now notice that the second title, The Saint Valentine's Day Murders, is also $0.99, so if you want to give the series a try, you can do so without spending a lot.

Saint V link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VQL7PRH/

Spoiler:
Quote:
"The plotting and the mechanics of the solution are in the best traditions of the classic British mystery...Try not to miss this one." —New York Times

Life in a dismal bureaucratic cul-de-sac is not what Robert Amiss expects when the British civil service lends him for a year to the British Conservation Corporation. In fact, he finds himself condemned to a non-job in a backwater, managing disgruntled and demoralized timeservers who deeply resent him. Morale is not improved by the arrival of Melissa, a radical feminist lesbian separatist. Only Amiss's sense of humour and the joys of visiting Rachel, his new love in Paris, keep him sane.

The malice, envy and anger that burgeons among the filing cabinets is first expressed in pettiness and then in unpleasant practical jokes. Then it escalates and finally culminates in callous murder by means of boxes of poisoned chocolates sent to the bureaucrats' wives.

With the help of Ellis Pooley, a young detective obsessed with fictional sleuths, Amiss and his friend, Superintendent Milton, search for motives in an office where marital discord and broken dreams might drive anyone to murder.

This series reminds me a bit of my absolute most favorite Hilary Tamar series by Sarah Caudwell for the bone dry British humor (humour), a bit of Amanda Cross/Kate Fansler for the academic bent of many of them, a bit of R.B. Dominic (aka Emma Lathen)/Ben Safford on the political side, and is just overall quite enjoyable. I do mostly disagree with Edwards's politics, but mostly she doesn't shove them in your face, except possibly in the last couple of books in the series, and I found I could easily overlook the politics most of the time.

Anyway, after a long-winded post...

Corridors has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

The Siberian Dilemma is the ninth and most recent (2019) in the Arkady Renko series by Martin Cruz Smith. It is £0.99 today as part of the Kindle UK Daily Deal.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Siberian-Di...dp/B07ND2848L/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Investigator Arkady Renko, described as ‘one of the most compelling figures in modern fiction’ by USA Today, finds himself travelling deep into Siberia when journalist Tatiana Petrovna disappears on a case.

Journalist Tatiana Petrovna has disappeared. Arkady Renko, iconic Moscow investigator and Tatiana’s on-off lover, hasn’t seen her since she left on a case over a month ago. No one else thinks Renko should be worried – Tatiana is known to disappear during deep assignments – but he knows her enemies all too well and the criminal lengths they will go to keep her quiet. Given the opportunity to interrogate a suspected assassin in Irkutsk, Renko embarks on a dangerous journey to Siberia to find Tatiana and bring her back.

Renko finds Siberia to be a land of shamans and brutally cold nights, oligarchs wealthy on northern oil and sea monsters that are said to prowl the deepest lake in the world. With these forces at work against him, Renko will need all his wits about him to get Tatiana out alive.

From the revered author of crime classic Gorky Park comes the brilliant ninth novel featuring the iconic Arkady Renko.
