The Venetian Affair by Helen MacInnes is $1.99 right now at Kindle and Kobo US. This was one of the earliest spy novels I read after branching out from Alistair MacLean, and I remember really liking it. I may have to reread it....

Seeing a Large Cat is the 9th in the excellent IMO (and the opinion of lots of others, I suspect, going by Peters' MWA Grand Master Award) Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Most of the titles in this series don't go on sale very often in the US, so grab this one if you want it.

I was of two minds about whether to post this or not. At $4.99, it's kind of expensive for a sale price, and not much off its normal price of $6.99. OTOH, I really like this series (see below). So in the end I decided to post. So...

Robert Amiss is persuaded by his friend Detective Sergeant Pooley of the CID to take a job as a waiter in ffeatherstonehaughs (pronounced Fanshaws), a gentlemens club in St James. The club secretary has allegedly jumped to his death from the gallery of this imposing building. Against most of the evidence, Pooley believes he was murdered.
Amiss finds himself in a bizarre caricature of a club, run by and for debauched geriatrics, with skeletons rattling in every cupboard. Why are there so few members? How are they financed? Will Amiss keep his job despite the enmity of the ferocious, snuff-covered Colonel Fagg?

Corridors of Death is the first in the Robert Amiss series by Ruth Dudley Edwards. I'm quite fond of this series, and was lucky enough to pick up most of these titles back in pre-agency/Fictionwise days, and have them transferred to BN when FW went out of business. This series reminds me a bit of my absolute most favorite Hilary Tamar series by Sarah Caudwell for the bone dry British humor (humour), a bit of Amanda Cross/Kate Fansler for the academic bent of many of them, a bit of R.B. Dominic (aka Emma Lathen)/Ben Safford on the political side, and is just overall quite enjoyable. I do mostly disagree with Edwards's politics, but mostly she doesn't shove them in your face, except possibly in the last couple of books in the series, and I found I could easily overlook the politics most of the time.

Anyway, after a long-winded post...
