in fact if you read the Sigil release notes you will see the information on how to properly and fully install Sigil on a Mac. As Doitsu explained, you need to install the free version of ActiveTCL on your Mac.

Hi Kevin,
Had to use a new (well, an old i3) computer, I installed.with ubuntu 18 04 3 LTS (Gnome 3.28.2). Sigil (of the repository) 0.9.9. Epubcheck and FlightCrew working fine. Path to Python (auto) /usr/bin/python3. With e3pub3etizer I have the error message : Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/sigil/plugin_launchers/python/launcher.py", line 134, in launch target_script = __import__(script_module) File "/home/francoise/.local/share/sigil-ebook/sigil/plugins/ePub3-itizer/plugin.py", line 35, in <module> import tkinter ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tkinter' Error: No module named 'tkinter' What is my mistake ? Thanks a lot. Julie |

Your Python is missing your Tk graphics module. There is a testplugin that checks if you have installed everything you may need to use Sigil.
So look for a python3 tk module or library to installed via your distribution package management tool. This link seems to indicate the missing oackage is called python3-tk https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/python3-tk Last edited by KevinH; 08-30-2019 at 01:06 PM. |

Indeed. In-between, I installed the missing packages python3-tk. And it works. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for the quick answer !

No epub2 has a valid SMIL file of any type. It is not supported in epub2. Initially epub3 support for updating SMIL in Sigil did not work that well nor was epub3 editing much of a viable option.
So that capability was added to allow a user to take an epub2 and add SMIL files (which were not supported in epub2 and in fact made them invalid) and run epub3-itizer to get an epub3 with SMIL. Today since epub3 is well supported in Sigil, You simply run ePub3-itizer and then load your epub3 and add your SMIL files. They are now supported for any moves or renames. I was actually thinking of splitting the updating of metadata in the epub3 for SMIL into its own plugin to make it easier for people who work with SMIL and audio files. Either way, adding them to the epub3 is the right thing to do. |

This involves both things you said you hated. So do you even use this plugin? If so, how do you then explain your public stances on ePub3 and Python3 then? |

Using epubitizer 5.0 I noticed in nav.xhtml, the title may be missing in head (had to had it manually to pass epubcheck) :
<head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <style type="text/css"> ol { list-style-type: none; } </style> <title></title> </head> Not essential, but... Thanks anyway for this plugin (and happy new year, of course !) |

I hadn't noticed it before because all the epub2s I've converted so far had .html files, and renaming them to .xhtml (after converting to epub3 but before getting around to running epubcheck) had the surprising side effect of adding <title></title> to the nav.xhtml. Running Mend will also add the <title></title>, not surprisingly. But if the epub2 starts with .xhtml files and you don't run Mend to catch it, epubcheck will flag the missing <title> |

This should now be fixed in ePub3-itizer_v051.zip that can be downloaded from the first post in this thread or from the official github site:
