That's a great deal on the Tap. It is nice to have a portable version that can be taken outside when needed.

Amazon's Alexa is starting to own this space. Google was late and lame by comparison.

The cheap batteries in 2 of my Amazon device remotes leaked into the remotes. Hopefully DH can clean them up and they will still work. I guess it means I don't use the remotes much. One was for the original Echo, one for the original Fire TV box.

Your post is a good reminder to check the batteries in things you don't use very often.

I've had pretty good luck cleaning up battery leaks by dampening the surface with a little bit of vinegar, and then brushing it with an old toothbrush.

Vinegar's good. Another is a paste of water and baking soda. Both will neutralize the acid. May have to clean up the contacts with emery/nailfile, but unless the contacts are completely gone (or the corrosion seeped into the actual printed-circuit board), then there's no reason to suspect it can't be fixed.

Are you sure about the chemistry, there?
I'm curious if vinegar (an acid) will actually neutralize any acid (acid from an alkaline battery??), and if so, how baking soda, an alkaline, could do it too...but admittedly, I was better at physics than chemistry.

I'm sure either will do fine cleaning the mess, though.

Sorry. Both will help to remove corrosion. The baking soda will neutralize the acid.

My hubby uses vinegar too.
He also said be very careful and not get any battery acid on you.

...then rub the bread on the battery contacts and they should clean right up.

If the corrosion is very old, try aged balsamic.
