Sorting Shelves by Number of books
When I sort the Shelves by the number of books, I get all the shelves with 9 books, then 8, then 73, then 7, then 6 etc.

How do you sort the shelf list by size? I don't see an option on either the Glo or the Touch. Is this an AuraHD thing?

And yes, some programmer needs to be rapped across the knuckles for sorting numbers as a string.

It is on the aura only perhaps? I don't see it on the mini.
When you are in the shelf menu you have option to sort by shelf name or number of books or date created.

Oh well, maybe we should all chip in and buy them a copy of Knuth's Sorting and searching

It looks to me as if the problem is that the No. of books field has been created as a string, i.e. No. books appended with the word 'Book'/'Books'. Hence the alpha- rather than numeric-sort.

You have to wonder how experienced these programmers are. I'm fairly sure I'd got this schoolboy(girl) error knocked out of me during my trainee programmer phase.

characters... somehow that fits for Kobo Developers.
Somehow, that characters vs. numeric field sort of stuff doesn't surprise me at all. Took me under a second to figure out what was going on when I saw the sequence that was posted. I've come to expect a certain level of competence one might say...

Once upon a time you had to write a sort, or at least key in the algorithm, Now one only has to pick the right function and pass a pointer to the right values. Seems simple enough, but obviously not.

Apart from it being such a rookie mistake, it is also surprising when you look back at the series sorting they had. That did have the number treated as a number for most circumstances. The simple numbers worked, it was only when there was a decimal that it broke.

Helen: Could you look in the "Kobo Reader.conf" and tell me what the following lines looks like:

Odds are the sorting is there for other devices but with no way to set. Changing in the file will probably work. Knowing the names of the sort routines is the problem.

That works on the Glo. Of course, the shelf with 13 books is between 2 book and 1 book shelves.

I expect there are a lot of undocumented features in the firmware as well as abandoned modules

Still your Gui Kobo Utilities plugin has made me feel a little less frustrated with the futility of it all, and even with the sort by number of books not working correctly it almost seems helpful

Yes, there seems to be a lot of this around. I can see this particular one as it is a feature with the Aura. The Glo might get the library lists from the Aura in the future.

I can see the use of sorting by size, but without the ability to swap, it isn't handy.

And I'm glad you like the plugin. It makes my life easier as well.
