That is an SSL error when trying to connect to the internet -- I am guessing you are on a Mac since that problem typically shows up on Macs.
Apple's system OpenSSL is... problematic... I believe Kovid has said he intends at some point to get calibre on OSX to use an internal OpenSSL build to fix these problems. |

There also have been numerous issues on Windows platforms due to missing root certificates.

It's a Surface Pro 3. The last one that I had was making the calls fine, so I'm assuming I'm missing a dependency or something.
Is someone still using this plugin successfully after Comicvine got migrated under Gamespot's umbrella? |

In that case you may have a missing root certificate.
You aren't missing a dependency -- calibre includes all its dependencies. Like any other Windows application. |

I meant a dependency for the plugin or one for the site it's scraping.

Um, if a plugin has a dependency that isn't already installed with calibre, it is the responsibility of the plugin author to bundle the dependency.
tl;dr Still no. If you are on Windows, then it might be the root certificate. That could be caused by pending/not installed Windows updates. |

I updated Calibre, and now it's working. So maybe it WAS something with Calibre.

Once you get it working, keep in mind that this scraper is not the most advanced, you'll get a lot of false positives especially if you're working with comics that have multiple volumes, and it can have difficulty finding matches at all depending on how the title strings and such are formatted. I can give you a short primer on maximizing utility if that would help. |

Greetings...
I just found this thread. I'm glad to see some activity from within the same calendar year.
I'm sort of a renegade when it comes to running Calibre. I run in only in the "daemonize"-ed, mode and edit the library with the linux command line. For most titles, my meta-data comes in without issue. Most of the comments here refer to the plugin and its operation within the GUI. Since I do not use the GUI, does this mean that the plugin will not be useful to my unconventional usage? |

Broken again?
Not sure who else is watching, but it looks like the plugin broke again last night/this morning, not sure what it is this time:
