Offhand, Baen appears to have retained rights to the single books in the David Drake "General" series while also releasing two-in-one compilations.

It's common for the same publisher to release both single-volume and omnibus editions of a series; what pdurrant said is that it's extremely unusual for two different publishers to do so.

Cross-post to two mystery collections, pub by Witness Impulse (part of HarperCollins), so not couponable at Kobo, which was sort of the point of this thread, so I put them in the Mystery sticky thread, and just giving links here.

These might be couponable, if even available, at some of the smaller Kobo stores (NZ, South Africa, maybe Singapore or HK), but I don't have time to check, and coupons for those stores are scarce anyway.

These are pretty good prices, even without coupons:

All five titles in the Debutante Dropout mystery series by Susan McBride for $1.99 right now (not sure how long, normally $4.99, which is still pretty good): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3161030

The first three titles in the Cooper & Fry mystery series by Stephen Booth for $3.99: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3161041

Several omnibus editions of various titles in Louise Penny's excellent Inspector Gamache series have appeared at Kindle US and Kobo US. Unfortunately they are not attractively priced, are not couponable in the US, and don't seem to be available at the moment in any of the other Kobo stores that I checked (India, NZ, Canada, South Africa) where they might be couponable.

Still, I'm providing info here in case things ever change.

The ominbuses available in the US are:

Books 1 - 10 for $72.72

Books 1 - 3 for $18.38

Books 4 - 6 for $22.38

Books 7 - 9 for $23.98

The Martin Beck Series: Books 1–4 by Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo is exactly what it says.

It is available and couponable at the Kobo South Africa store (and possibly others). It is R 213, which is about US $15.75, and would be a good deal with a coupon...

ISBN: 9780007503247
link (have to already be in SA store): https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...ries-books-1-4

Spoiler:
Quote:
Here, in one eBook volume, are the first four books in the hugely acclaimed Martin Beck series – novels that shaped the future of Scandinavian crime fiction and influenced writers from Stieg Larsson to Jo Nesbo, Henning Mankell to Lars Kepplar. The first four novels in the Martin Beck series, available in one eBook volume. ‘Roseanna’: On a July afternoon, the body of a young woman is dredged from a lake in southern Sweden. Raped and murdered, she is naked, unmarked and carries no sign of her identity. As Detective Inspector Martin Beck slowly begins to make the connections that will bring her identity to light, he uncovers a series of crimes further reaching than he ever would have imagined and a killer far more dangerous. How much will Beck be prepared to risk to catch him? ‘The Man Who Went Up in Smoke’: A Swedish journalist has vanished without a trace in Budapest. When Detective Inspector Martin Beck arrives in the city to investigate, he is drawn to an Eastern European underworld in search of a man nobody knows. With the aid of the coolly efficient local police, he reveals a web of crime, stretching back across Europe – a discovery that will put his own life at risk. ‘The Man on the Balcony’: Someone is killing young girls in the once-peaceful parks of Stockholm – killing them after having his own way with them. The people of Stockholm are tense and fearful. Police Superintendent Martin Beck has two witnesses: a cold-blooded mugger who won’t say much and a three-year-old boy who can’t say much. The dedicated work of the police seems to be leading nowhere, and with each passing day the likelihood of another murder grows. But then Beck remembers someone – or something – he overheard. ‘The Laughing Policeman’: On a cold and rainy Stockholm night, nine bus riders are gunned down by an unknown assassin. The press, anxious for an explanation for the seemingly random crime, quickly dubs him a madman. But Martin Beck of the Homicide Squad suspects otherwise: this apparently motiveless killer has managed to target one of Beck’s best detectives – and he, surely, would not have been riding that lethal bus without a reason.

The Kate Martinelli Series, Books 1-3 is exactly what it says...it contains the first three books in the lesser known Kate Martinelli series by Laurie R. King, who is much better known for her Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series.

It is available and couponable at Kobo South Africa (and probably others). It is 565 R, or about US $42, which is really steep for three books, unless you happen to have a 75% or 90% coupon (such as are floating around right now on the recently un-stickied Kobo discounts thread) and want to use it for this.

Remember you have to already be in the Kobo SA store for the link to work:

Titles are:
  • A Grave Talent
  • To Play the Fool
  • With Child

Spoiler:
Quote:
The gripping debut of the Kate Martinelli mystery series won the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery, generating wide critical acclaim and moving Laurie R. King into the upper tier of the genre. Now, for the first time, the first three books in this thrilling series are bundled together in one package:
A Grave Talent
A string of shocking murders has occurred, each victim an innocent child. Detective Kate Martinelli, just promoted to Homicide, must bring the murderer to justice, even if she knows it means losing everything she holds dear.
To Play the Fool
Kate investigates the death of a homeless man, but the main suspect only speaks in quotations. Trying to learn something of his history leads her along a twisting road to a disbanded cult, long-buried secrets, the thirst for spirituality, and the hunger for bloody vengeance.
With Child
(Edgar Award nominee; Orange Award nominee) Kate's SFPD partner is getting married, and Kate agrees to take his new step-daughter during the honeymoon. Only the girl, already caught up in a missing persons case, goes missing herself.

The first three books in the Hot Dog Detective series by Mathiya Adams are available in a combined volume at Amazon. The series is available at other retailers (Kobo, Smashwords, etc.) but the omnibus/collection is available only at Amazon (as of now, anyway).

The first three books, and their regular individual prices, are:

Avid Angler: FREE
Busty Ballbreaker: $3.99
Crying Camper: $3.99

The Vol. 1 through 3 omnibus is $5.99

https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Dog-Detec...sap_bc?ie=UTF8

Given with the modest reduction in price over buying the second and third books individually, I'd recommend getting the first book free and then, if you like it, get the omnibus.

The books are published by Misque Press, which seems to be a legitimate, but very small, publisher. However, I read (and really enjoyed!) Avid Angler.

Description:

Spoiler:
Mark MacFarland, former Denver Police Detective, lost everything—his job, his home, his hope for the future--after the man who killed MacFarland's wife was acquitted of the crime. Now, after three years living homeless and drunk on the streets of Denver, he sells hot dogs from a cart located a block from where he used to work.

He's putting his life back together, until he is asked to solve a murder that pits him against the man who had wronged him years earlier.

In Avid Angler, MacFarland defends a woman wrongly accused of murdering her husband. MacFarland discovers his nemesis, Norris Peterson, may be involved in the murder.

In Busty Ballbreaker, MacFarland suspects that an industrial accident was anything but an accident. Is it just a coincidence that the company he is investigating is one of Norris Petersons?

Finally, in Crying Camper, MacFarland rescues missing and exploited homeless children only to learn that Peterson is involved in the exploitation ring.

In three successive novels, MacFarland's confrontation with Norris Peterson, a man of wealth, influence, and power, takes him closer and closer to losing all he has regained from his time on the streets.

Each mystery can be read as a standalone novel, but are best enjoyed when read in order.

The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elisabeth Moon is a bundle of three books of a complete fantasy trilogy.
ISBN: 9780748113002
Paksenarrion wasn't planning to submit to an unwelcome marriage and a lifetime of poverty, so she left her village with a plan and her grandfather's sword. And a few weeks later, she was installed as Duke Phelan's newest recruit in a company of soldiers for hire, her arms training about to begin. But when Paks sees combat, she's stabbed with an ensorcelled knife and barely survives. Then the near-misses start mounting up, raising questions about this young fighter. Is she attracting evil because she is a danger to them all? Or is there another reason malignant forces seek her life?

Paks will face the spider-minions of the Webmistress Achrya, orcs and the corrupted men who serve blood mage Liart, Master of Torments. She will also earn the gratitude of elves and of her Duke. And through conflict she will learn she has powers of her own and a destiny. To become a gods-chosen Paladin of Gird, and a target for the ultimate torture.

The bundle is 8.99§ at amazon US and 13.99€ at Kobo France.

It's AU$12.99 on Kobo Australia, which means that it is cheaper in the Kobo US site, and may be couponable.

There are currently 90% and 75% Kobo coupons out there.

Although the original purpose of this thread has sort of gone a bit by the wayside since high-value Kobo coupons are hard to find these days, for those who are willing to travel, there is a 40% coupon for Kobo Taiwan right now - see this thread.

And on the way to looking for other things, I noticed an omnibus of all five Grand Fenwick/Mouse That Roared books by Leonard Wibberley is available for NT $218.60, which my currency exchange site tells me is about US $7.20, which is a pretty good deal even without the 40% off. And with the 40% off, it's NT $ 131.16, or about US $4.34. The ISBN is 9781536564242, and the link is https://www.kobo.com/tw/zh/ebook/the...ed-set-5-books, however, be aware you may need to already be in the Taiwan store for the link to work.

Just for comparison, the individual titles range approximately NT$ 120 - 140 at Kobo Taiwan, or US $4 - $4.50 at Kindle US, and the same omnibus is $7.99 at Kindle US and £6.18 at Kindle UK.

Anyway, having now given this ancient thread a bump, I'll have to think about whether I have found any other cool omnibuses recently

All five of the Good Thief's Guide mystery series titles (Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Vegas, Venice) by Chris Ewan are available in a box set in the UK and in Taiwan (at least) and coupon/VIPable at Kobo. I just bought this set in Taiwan using the 40% coupon that is good until the end of the month; it was 305 NTD (about US $10) before the coupon and about US $6 after the coupon.

Not available that I could find in the US. Ewan himself is listed as the pub at Kobo Taiwan, so it appears rights may have reverted elsewhere, but still MacMillan in the US.

ISBN: 1230001878073

Kindle UK (currently £7.99): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Good-Thiefs...dp/B072LXDRWB/

Kobo Taiwan (price info above): https://www.kobo.com/tw/en/ebook/the...guides-box-set

Cross-post to the Mystery thread, with info about an omnibus of the first 18 (!!!) titles in the Meg Langslow series by Donna Andrews for £41.58 at Kindle UK. Also apparently available at Kobo UK, since a member in that thread was able to use a 90% Kobo coupon on it...whee!
