Books not showing when transfered to PW

When I first purchased my PW a few months ago, I noticed that many of the books which I sideloaded onto the device weren't showing up. These were books which I'd downloaded from Amazon or from sites such as MR. I sideload because I have no wifi.

During the warm weather I've got the urge to read more than I have been doing lately, so decided to load more books onto my Kindle. When I hooked the kindle up to my pc, I was shocked to see that I'd already put many books on it, but only 14 were showing.

These were a mixture of public domain books and some downloaded from Amazon. They were showing as in folders with the format .sdr. I looked inside the folders, they all contain two items with the format .mbp1 and .mbs.
I don't know what any of these formats mean. I tried taking them out of the folders and just putting the folder contents into the 'documents' part of the kindle, but this didn't work either.

What can I do about this please? Surely I shouldn't have to convert something which has come from Amazon?

Look under documents. Extensions should be .mobi or .prc or .azw and its variants.

That's what I was doing, and what I saw was those strange sdr folders and their contents, but they don't show on the kindle when I look for the books, only when the kindle is attached to the computer and I look in its drive and in its documents folder.

Anything in a .sdr folder is not a book.

The file extensions .mbp1 and .mbs specifically are the annotations files for the corresponding book.

.sdr is the sidecar folder, where "book.mobi" (or .prc/.azw/.azw3) matches up to "book.sdr" -- the contents of this folder are annotations (.azw3r and .azw3f for AZW3 books) as well as, for purcased books, APNX (pagenumbers) and .asc files for EndActions, X-ray, and Author details.

When you delete a sideloaded book, these are not deleted, as Amazon does not wish you to lose your notes.

That is what you are seeing.

Thanks. I've now successfully loaded the books onto the reader even though it seemed that they were already there. I've only put 4 on, because I remembered the problems I had with battery drainage due to indexing.
