OK, let's see if this makes a difference: We have temporarily disabled push notification to Tapatalk users.
Tapatalk's servers are slow at the moment to the point of being unusable, and it's possible that the slow-down/timeout we've been experiencing is our servers timing-out while pushing new posts notifications to Tapatalk. Meanwhile we'll investigate further and also contact the Tapatalk guys. |

I'd hate to lose Tapatalk completely, but running with pull-only is certainly feasible. At least until/unless the Tapatalk folks have addressed their issues.

Sorry, but that reminds me of the ads for Westworld: "Where nothing can go wrong...go wrong...go wrong...."

It looks like we are back to normal speed without the random slowness when a post is being submitted.
Since the most likely cause for the issues was Tapatalk (and their lagging servers), we are now going to reenable our duty slave server, to off-load some of the read-intensive database work. Should you suddenly notice similar problems again, please post here. |

Perhaps Tapatalk is suffering growth pains.

Hmmm. Perhaps. Given how sudden the slowdown occurred, though, and that Tapatalk is not a new player who would expect sudden dramatic growth changes, I suspect their server issues were related to something else.
I am somewhat torn about Tapatalk. It's an excellent tool - only sometimes, they don't execute it so well. For instance, every time there is a Tapatalk update, I am anxious about installing it. They tend to introduce ugly regression bugs and I wish they'd spend more time testing their stuff before releasing it. |
