Compacting the Database?

Just wondering if, after deleting my entire calibre library, do I need to compact the database in some way? I noticed that any new books I entered began with the next sequential number right before I started deleting.

So, I had, say... 139 books, deleted 139 books, re-entered books in a completely different order - but book numbering began at #140.

While I realize this does not affect calibre per se, I'm just wondering if I missed something.

Edit: I highlighted books and pressed the Del key, I did not use the toolbar trashcan icon. I did still get the Are You Sure dialog though.

That's deliberate. id numbers are never reused. If yo want to force them to be re-used ( abad idea) you can always delete the metadata.db file.

No, that was not my intent. I just thought that I had done something equivalent to the MS Access error of old. (Deleting records, but never compacting the database. So the database file size increased unnecessarily, used unique IDs inefficiently, etc.)

Thanks
