Attention translators: moving to Transifex
Based on feedback received from many of the calibre translators, I have decided to move calibre translations from Launchpad to Transifex. Instructions for setting up a Transifex account and starting translations are here: http://calibre-ebook.com/get-involved
All existing translations have been copied from Launchpad to Transifex. Transifex has both a web based translation interface, that is much nicer than Launchpad, and you can also download/upload .po files if you prefer to work offline instead. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions/concerns. This is my first experience with Transifex, so I will do my best to help, but... The main problem with Launchpad that prompted this move was the frequent timeouts that occur in its web interface and also, in the last month, the updated translations are not always making it into the calibre releases because of launchpad server problems. You missed a launchpad reference on the get involved page.

I see that Transifex has 'projects' under each account.
Would it be possible or desirable to organize plugin translations as additional projects under the calibre account? |

I'm not willing to manually manage the .po/.pot files from calibre plugins, so I dont see much advantage to creating projects under my account. I would then become a cetral bottleneck for managing .po files from plugins.

Fair enough; I wouldn't expect you to manage translations for plugins. I thought that maybe you could assign users to manage projects somewhat separately.

Good move, I was tired of launchpad's timeouts.

I have uploaded the calibre user manual into Transifex. If/when some relatively complete translations of the user manual become available I will add multi-language support to the calibre user manual site.

The idea was that perhaps you could add plugin developers as users with authority over only their own project under the calibre account. Thanks. |

I have created a separate project for calibre plugins translation. If you send me a message on transifex with the names of the plugins you want to create translations for, I will create the entries in the Transifex database and make you maintainer for those resources, so you can upload pot files, download po files etc. The project is assigned to the calibre translation team, so existing calibre translators can easily contribute to the translations.

A small wrinkle. I can find no way to create empty resources in Transifex to assign to individual plugin authors. So as a plugin author, you will have to send me the .pot file and I will do the initial import for you and then make you maintainer of that resource so you can manage it in the future.
