You could have yours before anybody else. DA Direct in Australia has the Hanlin V5 in stock. Only in black though and no pretty pink. The price is higher but the difference might not be that big depending on brokerage fees and other import costs.

I almost ordered the Sony 505 when Borders had them for 199 but decided not to because I was unsure how much all the import fees to Canada would end up to. If any Canadian is getting the Pocket Pro I would be very interested in how much those import costs are.

Hello,

I have pre-order the pocket pro. I am from montreal, so i can tel you that i paid through visa there was an exchange rate of 0.90 for the us $ on my credit card. Also, there is a 36$ US shipping fee. so total was 235$ at 0.90 on my credit card. I have called the goverment at customs & they told me that there is no charge for handling fees. But we will be charge tps & provincial taxe. Now i have yet to received the pocket pro & i cannot confirm to you for sure. At the worse case senario they will charge handling fees which are usualy 5$. (on 2 seperate order from the us that i did before, it is what they are charging).

I have extimated that for the pocket pro, the shipping cost, the exchange rate & taxes i should pay arround 280-290$can. (still an estimate since i did not get it yet)

Hope that anwsers your question.

I think Astak is shipping to Canada with USPS which as far as I know has the lowest brokerage fees. I think it's the 5$ you quoted. But I have also heard of horrendous fees that some of the courier companies charge. Read the comments on this blog.

Yes, USPS/Canada Post is $5 for brokerage. I don't understand this UPS class action suit business though -- their rates are clearly listed on their website:

http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shi...clearance.html

If you want to avoid paying the brokerage, just use anything but UPS ground.

I think a lot of people don't check into this when they order. They just see the shipping charges and think that's all they're going to pay extra and compare that to the cost of the item in Canada.

You also wonder why USPS only charges 5$ for the same paperwork UPS charges ten times as much or more.

I'm glad I found out about the express or overnight shipping though. Should I want to order from the US I'll definitely either use USPS or one of the express options.

If you have the time, inclination, and a car, you could also clear the package yourself to avoid any brokerage fees. Here is an example:
