You may wish to let the user configure his WPM so that the estimates can be adjusted. Reading speed varies so widely that you probably can't pick a single value that will yield accurate estimates for everybody

We won't use a constant WPM. We were thinking of doing something more elegant. We should be able to count the number of words per screen and the amount of time spent to estimate the WPM for each reader and do estimates based on those unique WPM.

Having to require readers to enter or even know their WPM seems suboptimal. What do you think about the approach to calculate it automatically for each reader. Initially of course it will just say" learning" until the reader moves from the first page/screen.

What do you think about that approach?

Until the page numbers are fixed, BF is very much seriously broken! It needs to be fixed.

It's a good idea, but different genres may yield wildly different WPM. The time it takes to read a page in a thriller novel is going to be much less than in a nonfiction philosophy book, or even something like a cookbook where a single page may be displayed for 30 minutes as you follow the instructions in your kitchen. You should probably have some mechanism to account for this, e.g. a per-book or per-genre metric.

We discussed here that it is not a bug as several other platforms would also be broken. We will be implementing the same metric you are familiar with when we get to that task at a later date when doing time remaining as well.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to address this feedback until then. Hope you understand

Those are very good points. Thanks for mentioning this, means we have to think about it a little bit more. Adds some complexity, cookbooks would be an outlier for sure since folks might spend the time it takes to cook on those pages. So at minimum we would need quickly identify if a book is Fiction, Nonfiction , Comic (word count not possible here, would require OCR first at least to get that), Cookbooks. These would be the 4 broad categories I can think of for now. I like the per-genre metric suggestion

Well there goes our initial planned approach . Thanks for mentioning the above, we will think about the best way to get this done.

Yes, those other platforms are also broken. This is not how page numbers work.

Of course, this also assumes that the book has correct genre metadata, which isn't always the case. Just imagine when a thriller is incorrectly tagged as a cookbook, and the user sees an estimate of 1000 days to finish reading it at 30 minutes per page.

Yup but I think we could train a model based on the book descriptions only to quickly classify them. Lets see how it goes once we get to this task You have made it more exciting for us. haha

  • Option to use both sides for tap to next page

Here's another:
  • Larger side tap zones for page turns

In general, switching pages is the most used function while reading. With BookFusion on my iPad mini 6, the side tap zones are way too small so I often end up opening the menu when I want to go to the next page.

On my Kobo e-ink, I think the screen is divided into thirds which I think is a reasonable default.
Just a heads up. All your feedback would now be addressed in the latest release of the BookFusion iOS app.

It's a wonderful app, but I don't have enough metrics like Storygraph.
Do you want to add visualized stats?

It was also a good idea to add synchronization or import/export to a Goodreads.

Statistics

We have a whole section dedicated to statistics and graphs. We hope to get started on this component sometime next year. Won't leak the designs already done but I am sure you will like them.

Good Reads

We would like to, however it is not possibly since GoodReads retired the API and only allows access to apps previously integrated which will eventually also stop working. GoodReads will become much more closed and restrictive.
