The Proof of the Pudding is the 17th and most recent (until November) in Rhys Bowen's Lady Georgie/Royal Spyness series. It's £1.99 at Kindle UK right now, but sadly not price-matched, at least as of now, at Kobo UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BV5XFGFN
Kobo UK (for price check): https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/the...-the-pudding-5

Spoiler:
Quote:
Lady Georgiana Rannoch is looking forward to her first ever turn as hostess for her very own house party when the festivities lead to murder…

Georgie, back home at her estate in Eynsleigh, impatiently awaits the birth of her baby. But she has plenty to occupy her: her new chef, Pierre, has arrived from Paris, and Sir Hubert, who owns Eynsleigh, is back from his latest expedition. It's time for Georgie to throw her first house party to celebrate his return and show off her new chef. The dinner party is a smashing success. Sir Mortimer Mordred—famous author of creepy Gothic horror novels—is one of the guests. He recently purchased a nearby Elizabethan manor nearby because it has a famous poison garden. After the dinner, Sir Mortimer approaches Georgie and asks to borrow her new chef for his upcoming party, and Georgie and Darcy, her dashing husband, are invited!

The tour of the poison garden is fascinating, as is Sir Mortimer’s laboratory. Shockingly, just after the banquet several of the guests become sick. And one dies, apparently poisoned by berries from the garden. But how could this be when they all ate the same meal and the same delectable dessert? Georgie has to find the culprit to save her new chef and her own reputation—all before her bundle of joy arrives!

Less Than a Moment is the twenty-fourth Posadas County mystery by Steven F Havill. It's on sale in the US right now for $0.99.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083QMW2WT
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/less-than-a-moment-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
No crime is forgiven, and no mistake overlooked in this new addition to the critically acclaimed Posadas County Mystery series…

When a developer shows up in Posadas County, the locals get nervous. The small town along the southern border of New Mexico has enjoyed a surge in visitors, jobs, and prosperity since rancher Miles Waddell opened an eco-friendly complex. But then the developer buys land just next door, with plans for a project that will threaten the county's newfound success.

Tension is at an all-time high when someone shoots up the newsroom—and then the developer is found dead at the base of a cliff. Sheriff Bob Torrez and Undersheriff Estelle Reyes-Guzman know these events are all too convenient and bloody not to be connected.

With support from Bill Gastner—an old Western sheriff straight out of the movies—the partners dive into a heated investigation. But as the case gets personal, the two will have to untangle a web of convoluted evidence before the community turns on itself.

A Truth to Lie For is the fourth Elena Standish mystery by Anne Perry, who is much better known for her Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series, I suspect. It's on sale for $1.99 right now in the US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NXFQ88B
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-truth-to-lie-for

Spoiler:
Quote:
It is the summer of 1934, and Hitler is nearing the summit of supreme power in Germany. When Britain’s MI6 gets word that a German scientist has made a key breakthrough in germ warfare, they send Elena Standish on a dangerous mission to get him out of Germany before he’s forced to share his knowledge and its destructive power with Hitler’s elite.

But the British soon learn that the new head of Germany’s germ warfare division is an old enemy of Elena's grandfather Lucas, the former head of MI6. And he’s bent on using any means to avenge his defeat at Lucas’s hands twenty years before.

What starts as an effort to save Europe from the devastation of disease becomes an intensely personal fight. As Elena and the scientist make their way across Germany, they confront not only the Gestapo but also a group of unpredictable Nazi supporters. With Elena’s every decision challenged, this compelling thriller takes a searing look at what it means to make the right choices in a world rife with so much evil.

Yesterday's Joffe free book is Scotland Yard's First Cases by Joan Lock. It's kind of hard to tell by the blurb and cover whether it's non-fiction, or fictionalized but kind of close to non-fiction, but in any case, it's still free.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7I8ETM
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N7I8ETM

Today's Joffe free book is a box set of all three mysteries in Keith Finney's Lipton St Faith mystery series: A Deadly Coincidence, A Deadly Confession, and A Deadly Mistake.

Simon Brett has a new-ish "Decluttering" series, with four books so far. And now the first one, The Clutter Corpse, is on sale for $0.99/£0.99 in the US/UK, and discountable at Kobo.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085LL6K2F
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-clutter-corpse-2
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B085LL6K2F
Kobo UK: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/the-clutter-corpse-2

I desperately need some help decluttering, and just the other day was eyeing a non-fiction book on how to deal with clutter. But I didn't buy it, and this looks like a lot more fun to read. And maybe it can do double-duty and get me inspired IRL too ...

Spoiler:
Quote:
Introducing an engaging new amateur sleuth, declutterer Ellen Curtis, in the first of a brilliant new mystery series.

Ellen Curtis runs her own business helping people who are running out of space. As a declutterer, she is used to encountering all sorts of weird and wonderful objects in the course of her work. What she has never before encountered is a dead body.

When Ellen stumbles across the body of a young woman in an over-cluttered flat, suspicion immediately falls on the deceased homeowner's son, who has recently absconded from prison. No doubt Nate Ogden is guilty of many things – but is he really the killer? Discovering a link between the victim and her own past, Ellen sets out to uncover the truth. But where has her best friend disappeared to? And is Ellen really prepared for the shocking revelations to follow?

Whole Life Sentence is the ninth, and per the blurb, the final, book in Lynda La Plante's Jane Tennison series. It's £1.99 today as part of the Daily Deal at Kindle UK, but sadly not matched, at least as of now, at Kobo UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CSTSGNS8
Kobo UK (for price check): https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/whole-life-sentence

Spoiler:
Quote:
DETECTIVE JANE TENNISON'S POLICE CAREER HANGS IN THE BALANCE: A SINGLE STEP FROM GLORY - OR RUIN.

While she has elbowed her way into an elite team investigating non-domestic murders, there is nothing elite about her first assignments: a missing teenager cold case and an apparent suicide Tennison suspects is, in fact, murder.

But as she uncovers explosive evidence, Tennison's new colleagues watch like vultures circling prey. And, one by one, the cases no one else wanted are taken from her - and the glory along with them.

Now Tennison has had enough: of the rampant sexism, snide remarks and undermining. It's time to take what is rightfully hers from those who have held her back.

She just has to do what she does best: find her prime suspect . . .

The Hard Detective is the first in HRF Keating's lesser-known DCI Harriet Martens series. It's free right now at Kindle US and UK. As I've mentioned before, this series had been e-published by Endeavour Press, who went out of business quite a while ago. And Endeavour put books on sale/free quite a bit. So I would normally warn you that you might already have this in your library. But this new Lume Books version is free right now too, so unless you just want to avoid duplicates, who cares ???

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BBVVPBW5
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BBVVPBW5

Spoiler:
Quote:
DCI Martens has had to be unyielding to make it in a man’s world — and has rightfully earned the nickname the “hard detective”.

It was this toughness that inspired her successful Stop the Rot campaign, which has so provoked local criminals. But now two of her officers have been murdered within hours of each other — the circumstances echoing the Book of Exodus, “a life for a life, an eye for an eye...”.

Has the killer chosen this gruesome ritual to tell Harriet she’s been pushing too hard? And if so, can she prevent the six deaths that will complete the quotation — continuing with a tooth for a tooth…?

About half the books in Frederick Ramsay's Ike Schwartz series have just dropped to $0.99 each at Kindle US, which is lower than Poisoned Pen Press usually goes. And one more has dropped to $1.99. Sadly only the $1.99 drop is matched at Kobo US.

The $0.99 titles are:
  • Artscape, #1
  • The Eye of the Virgin, #6
  • Rogue, #7
  • Scone Island, #8
  • Drowning Barbie, #9
And the $1.99 title is:
  • Secrets, #2
Here's a link for all of these at Kindle US (plus a couple of strays):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?sea...price-asc-rank

And here's a link for Secrets at Kobo US (discountable): https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/secrets-407
