No definite plans.

The main issue is that the Kindle has a CDMA comms module, and downloads data wirelessly over the "Sprint" mobile phone network in the US. This would need to be changed to a GSM module for the UK, and then a deal negotiated with one of the major mobile phone operators in the UK (Vodafone or whoever) for "free" data transfer (free from the user's viewpoint, anyway). Given the way that data traffic is charged in the UK, that could be problematic, given that the Kindle can (currently at least) be used for unlimited web browsing (although Amazon do stipulate that this may not last indefinitely).

I suppose they could launch it without "Whispernet" (the wireless comms) but that would remove one of its main selling points.

On top of that, there may perhaps be issues with book distribution rights. Many books have different UK and US publishers.
