backup function for the configuration folder?
suggestion / wish
I'm not sure if this belongs here, but I just wanted to say it. Wouldn't it be possible to add a backup function for the configuration folder. Similar to the library export function. There is already an open function for the configuration folder, so it should be possible. I just find it more convenient. |

Hi,
The attached Calibre Config Backup script should work on Windows 10 versions later than Build 1803 (March 2018)! I'm not a big fan of Windows Task Scheduler, but it may be added as a weekly task if you like. Last edited by Comfy.n; 02-20-2024 at 06:03 PM. |

Thank you for the info Kovid.
So far, no backup restoration has been necessary for me, so I haven't noticed that the configuration is also saved. I always copied the configuration folder completely as a backup, I can probably save that now. Thank you for your quick response. ![]() |

Just wanted to thank you for this feature, Kovid. I recently setup a new computer and, having read this post a few days ago, used the export option to migrate my whole 30GB+ library from my primary laptop onto a thumb-drive, and then onto my new computer. It took awhile--and the OS seemed to think that Calibre had stopped responding several times--but when all was said and done, it finished, and it imported onto my new computer flawlessly!
Thanks again. |

Windows Explorer does a great job of making a copy of the calibre config directory tree. We don't need a script to do it,

For what it may be worth, my main backup routine involves 6 incremental backups (Monday-Saturday AM) and a full backup on Sunday AM.

Configuration data is stored multiple locations:
Per-user: in Windows this is stored in user home directories (e.g. C:\Users\xxxxxx\calibre); Per-library: which is stored in library databases. BR |

Or presumably ~/.config/calibre on Linux where ~ is path to user's home.
