Kindle and moving countries.

Hi all,

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. My friend is about to purchase the new Kindle Paperwhite here in Australia. In the future, she's moving to Canada, and she's taking her Kindle with her. She will not be employing the use of Calibre, Apprentice Alf or any other features to independently manage her ebooks, and will be fully relying on the cloud.

When she makes her move to Canada, will anything happen to her Kindle? Does it have an Australian serial? Will she lose her books when Amazon pings a Canadian ISP instead of an Australian one? When she updates her details to Canadian ones, will her content automatically shift from Amazon.com.au to Amazon.ca, or will tricky things happen?

I'm going to link her to this thread and this will be her first e-reader, so please avoid technical jargon!

All she needs to do is migrate her account to amazon.ca when she moves. This will transfer her content to her new amazon.ca account. She won't lose access to her prior purchases. The device is the same. Access depends on where your account and device are registered. Here's the Amazon.ca help page explaining the process: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/help/custome...deId=201248840

I'd like to add to this, regarding my own future holiday endeavours - how about mainland China?

I would think it would be better to buy from Amazon Autralia or Canada then China. That whole censorship thing. All the reports I have read state that Kindles work fine in China.

For vacation, change nothing.
If you move, you might want to change or you might not.

There are strange rules about what country you can claim versus what country you're actually in but the decision seems to be based on the bank card you use on Amazon, where the bank is, and where your billing address is.
