This may very well be true, but once the race claim has been made, you know how that will go if she insists she wasn't paying attention to that when doing this bombing practice. She tried cover it up with more lies with the fake friend, realizing how much it had blown up, but that certainly didn't help any either. Bizarre shame all around.

This sounds good on paper but in reality just isn't plausible unless you are going to restrict ARC types. Some still get complimentary mailed physical ARCs and not all go through systems --- and companies who are big on digital ARCs would have to work with GR to do this and likely charge GR something for the work they'd have to change on their end.

Edited to add - As others have said, I don't see all that work and cost making a difference anyway. You can still review bomb existing books that have been released and cause the same fall in ratings and reviews if you were so inclined, which has also happened before.

Right. I don't disagree. I'm just saying they were targeted because they were what she saw as her competition (they had similar books being published at the same time) rather than because she was a racist.

You might remember that before admitting what she had done, Corrain tried to claim she learned that a friend named Lilly had created those fake accounts and posted those reviews to help Corrain. And Corrain shared screencaps showing Lilly's confession.

You can tell Lilly is a villain. Her avatar is a grouchy face.

Oh, I'm not defending the author. She already lost her publishing deal and will have to live with that I just don't think she should be further tarred as a racist. Why kick her when she is down?

Honestly though, stories like this are for the most part a tempest in a teapot. If Cait Corrain's nefarious schemes were never uncovered, I'd bet the impact of those nine scathing reviews would have been negligible. Unless one of the impacted books never generated more than those nine reviews. But that would say more about the quality of the book than all nine reviews.

So, according to this, would have be fine to target white authors according to those articles? That's bigotry too.

No, of course not. It wasn't right on whoever she was aiming for with bombing to boost her own books.

In the grand scheme of things, I agree with ZodWallop that her review count, while annoying, would not have had a continued negative affect on these books as long as the other reviewers did not review and rate with 1-2 stars as well. This did not ruin anyone chances of their book succeeding despite what some are saying.

I agree with him too. I don't think the impact would have been big (there as been worse situations before.
