Reminds me of the pointless Facebook posts where people posted legal-sounding copy/paste snippets that they believed could be used to take back rights they'd already given Facebook by creating an account.

It's like trying to legally prevent anyone from being inspired by other's works.

The mere act of typing up random legalese does not actually make something legally binding.

The issue is copyright. Either the LLM makers are in violation or they are not. Adding extra prohibitions is pointless.

And the rules for fair use are most generous in the USA and in other places there is no such thing as "fair use", you need written permission.

The lawyers in USA will want paid well to argue if LLM training on copyright works without licence is fair use.

I've definitely seen those disclaimers in fanfiction. I'm not sure if it does any good.

From what I have found digging around several sites, it appears that those disclaimers are supposed to make it easier to sue the companies feeding those copyrighted works to their databases. Currently you would have to prove that they used more than the rather vague fair use limits while the disclaimer makes any use actionable. Much like the old disclaimers about copying/storing/retrieving a work using any means whether current or yet to be invented which had a spotty record before the courts.

Whether this will actually work in a courtroom has not yet been tested.
