Building Calibre from source

Hi! I'm trying to build Calibre from source (Windows), carefully following the instructions. I'm getting this error while trying to build it:
popplerqt4_inc_dirs = poppler_inc_dirs + [poppler_inc_dirs[1]+r'\qt4']
IndexError: list index out of range

I printed out poppler_inc_dirs, it's empty. Is it something about fontconfig package? Was it enough to unzip freetype, fontconfig and expat, or do I need to do more? What is this poppler? Thanks!

It can be very hard to build Calibre from source as there are so many dependancies that need to be got right. As it is now possible to alter Calibre itself without building from soure is there a good reason you want to do this? How to do this is documented in the Calibre User Guide. The instructions you are trying to follow are quite old and may well not be up-to-date with all the steps required to build from source. At the very least it is likely that later version of many of the packages are now required.

I agree with itimpi 100% - it's hard to imagine why you would want to do this. Calibre will run from your modified source when the environment variable points to the source. It's as simple as that. Once you have code you like, if you think it would be useful to others, send it to Kovid in the bug tracker.

Thanks! You're right, I didn't realize I didn't have to recompile the whole thing.
