Sunny Sunday morning in Upstate New York
And it's something to be celebrated! I'm a public library director and we've had so many questions from patrons who got kindles for Christmas that we're offering workshops where we'll share tips and tricks, introduce resources (like this forum) and talk about sources for free or low-cost books. So thanks in advance - I expect to learn from all of you experienced e-book users.

Hi kate and welcome to MobileRead. Does your library lend out eBooks? The Fairfax library does here in Virginia and it is a real treat.

Hi Kate. It's really great to hear that you're offering workshops -- will you be showing of multiple types of devices?
My better half saw a wonderful static display at the British Library with a whole collectoin of devices some months back and commented that it seemed very popular. |

Hi from an Upstate NYer in Berlin. I'm curious to know if your library will be lending in various formats- most of those I know in NY were using ePub or PDF. I watch the temps in my home area and I can see that we are finally warmer than you here, although I bet that you are sunnier!

My library system circulates e-books in pdf, e-pub, and mobipocket format, but the DRM protection prevents me from using it them on my kindle. That's partly what prompted the workshop - so many library patrons got them as Christmas gifts, and have been asking the staff for help in accessing our e-book collection. We're starting with just the kindle for now, but will offer more workshops if there's enough interest. I have to say - as a lifelong reader, who has always had multiple books going, and stacks that I couldn't get to, I NEVER expected to get so much pleasure out of reading from a device. I'm completely hooked.
thanks for the friendly words, kate |
